Organization Background

Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) is a Berkeley-based nonprofit organization providing sports, fitness and recreation programs for people with physical disabilities. Our programs serve youth, adults and families from all over the greater San Francisco Bay Area. BORP has been working to improve the health, independence and social integration of people with disabilities through accessible sports, fitness and recreation opportunities for the past 43 years.

Position Summary

The Adaptive Cycling Program Manager is responsible for managing the operations of BORP's Adaptive Cycling Program for people with physical disabilities and vision impairments of all ages. This is an exempt position which reports directly to the Executive Director. For more information on the program and BORP, visit www.borp.org.


Programmatic Responsibilities

• Manage the adaptive cycling program for youth, adults and families with a variety of disabilities; work with key stakeholders in determining and developing appropriate programming;

• Operational and strategic planning for the cycling program.

• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers.

• Manage the new BikeShare pilot program (in Oakland and San Francisco) and plan for its continuation.

• Plan, publicize and coordinate group rides and other program activities and events;

• Work with the Transportation Manager to coordinate transportation for program activities;

• Maintain cycling center facility and equipment inventory (approximately 75 bikes);


Outreach Responsibilities

• Work with agencies and individuals to reach new participants and expand participation into new communities;

• Assist in the planning and coordination of special agency-wide events and activities (e,g., the Revolution);

• Conduct community outreach presentations to increase participation and raise awareness about agency programs and services, and attend relevant conferences and community meetings.


Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain program database records and all required paperwork including program budgets, attendance records, participant forms and payment records, equipment records, timesheets, etc.

• Prepare timely and accurate program reports as required;

• Respond to inquiries regarding program activities and agency services.


Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree

• At least 2 years of program management experience.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Experience recruiting and supporting volunteers.

• Experience recruiting and supervising staff.

• Experience maintaining and repairing bicycles of all types.

• Experience working with people with disabilities.

• Proficiency in computer and internet skills, MS Office applications

• Able and willing to work on weekends (most Saturdays)

• Valid CA Driver’s License & good driving record

• Current CPR and First Aid Certification required (or complete within 30 days of hire)

• Ability to move, load, and unload equipment and cycles weighing up to 75 pounds

• Must pass background check and TB screening clearance

• Experience maintaining and repairing bicycles (helpful)

• Experience driving box trucks (helpful)
