The Strategic Data Analyst will serve a vital role across Alliance’s strategic planning process. This position will serve as a member of Alliance’s Data Strategy team, a high-visibility team within the organization that works directly with the CEO and other executives to drive overall strategy, organizational performance, and compliance. The position will report to the Data Strategy Manager. The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent quantitative, data analysis, and communication skills, as well as a proven ability to synthesize and translate complex information for use in decision making by a variety of audiences.


Analyze Data for Insights

  • Drive strategic data analytics, including the compilation, calculation, and analysis of data required for critical aspects of the organization’s strategic plan, such as:
  • Principal Scorecards and School Performance Dashboards, as well as detailed analysis to support action planning related to specific measures
  • Home Office Departmental performance metrics across customer service and operational excellence strategies
  • Regular assessment and revision of scorecards aligned with Alliance’s strategic plan
  • Compliance, governance, and oversight data for LAUSD Oversight Visits, charter renewals, and Federal Program Monitoring
  • Lead the primary data collection process from both internal and external sources in support of the overall data and strategy plan
  • Communicate actionable data-driven insights by creating tables, graphs, and narrative presentations for varied audiences including principals, assistant principals, senior leadership, and oversight authorities
  • Plan, organize, and execute data quality systems, including ongoing review of current practices and implementation of data cleaning protocols across multiple datasets and data sources

Manage Relationships

  • Collaborate closely with data analysts across Alliance to ensure that we conduct our analyses consistently, accurately, and efficiently
  • Consult with Alliance leaders early and often to align on methodology and set expectations for project completion
  • Provide excellent service to staff throughout Alliance who request data analytics in support of their work

  • Experience in schools or school districts that serve low-income students
  • Experience in a similar data analytics role
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to gather and analyze information skillfully, present data effectively, and interpret written information from varied sources
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to learn quickly and function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Flexible, optimistic approach, and comfort with change and ambiguity
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google-based applications
  • Experience with data analysis using Stata, R or Python preferred but not required; knowledge of Tableau is a plus
