Panthera is seeking a Grant Manager to deepen and broaden Panthera’s institutional funding base and provide grant writing capacity within the Business Development Department. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the position will focus on identifying and applying to new grant opportunities from multilateral institutions, governments and their agencies and corporations. The position will also be directly responsible for reporting on and renewing of current grants with the United States government and foundation funders. The ideal candidate for this position has a track record of securing grants from a variety of different kinds of funder, is a fast learner who can quickly immerse themselves in conservation fundraising, and an excellent communicator who can maintain close working relationships with dozens of program staff from all over the world.

A successful candidate will have a passion for our mission and a track record of managing and securing six- and seven- figure gifts. This position is located in Panthera’s New York office and will report to the Director of Business Development, based in the US. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a portfolio of government funders, serving as a liaison and informational contact between Panthera and granting agency staff including:

·        Working with Business Development and program staff to write, edit, and steward funding proposals (including concept notes and letters of interest) and detailed reports to funding sources, with a focus on multilateral, government, and foundation funders

·        Ensure timely submission of new and renewed proposals and reports and that proposals and reports meet funder requirements and broader strategic approaches.

·        Work with Panthera leadership and program staff to identify and pursue potential funding opportunities, including tracking requests for proposals from multilateral, government and corporate funders.

·        Contribute to accurate donor and income projections information in Salesforce database.

·        Develop and maintain strong knowledge of Panthera’s program work to independently and effectively represent, through both written and oral communications, a wide array of regional, national, and global environmental programs.

·        Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to build and grow Panthera’s government funding portfolio, focusing in particular on US and international opportunities.

Represent Panthera in meetings and other engagement opportunities with government funding staff. 

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

. Minimum of five years of demonstrated success in non-profit fundraising, including securing and managing gifts from government entities such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); UN agencies; foundations; etc.

· Knowledge of program evaluation preferred, especially of Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation.

·        Experience working with SalesForce preferred

·        Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

·        Sophisticated verbal and written communications skills in English and at least a second language, particularly Spanish and Portuguese

·        Consummate relationship building skills and attention to detail.

. Superior writing and planning and project management skills. Experience working in a non-profit institution of comparable complexity and scale.

·        Experience in the environmental conservation field desirable.
