SUMMARY:


The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for equal rights, seeks a highly experienced Manager, Civic Engagement to assist the NAACP in strengthening its legislative and community infrastructure and capacity programs to move a winning agenda at the national, state and local levels.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES:


The Manager, Civic Engagement oversees all aspects of the program management and coordination including day-to-day operations, the support of national and field staff advance and logistics, the support of core campaign within the department including but not limited work on voter registration, voter mobilization, GOTV, census, redistricting, voting rights, voter protection and other discreet civic engagement advocacy initiatives. The Manager, Civic Engagement also supports the coordination and implementation of the fundraising operations and ongoing coordination with strategic partners. Under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Civic Engagement, the Manager, Civic Engagement duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


•        Manage the department to ensure its on track with fundraising, preparing for and staffing call time and key development meetings, and providing support for all Civic Engagement fundraising events and activities in conjunction with the Development Department

•        Write and develop campaign/program literature, draft speeches and remarks for civic activities and create copy for the civic engagement website in conjunction with the Communications Department

•        Monitor all contributions, maintain financial records and are responsible for internal compliance with the Finance Department

•        Work closely with the national and state teams to identify, recruit and manage volunteers to help with various civic engagement activities

•        Work with specific constituency groups to organize their involvement with the various civic engagement campaigns e.g. – labor, seniors, educators, veterans, communities of color, new Americans, environmentalists, and college students, etc

•        Help develop a voter contact plan in coordination with the national and field teams for particular communities by building relationships with the existing organizations that represent these communities

•        Responsible for accepting and acting on all civic engagement invitations, seeking out potential events and putting together the core teams external engagement schedule as necessary in coordination with other departments

•        Makes sure that the team is briefed about each of the civic engagement events and is given proper directions, contact information, and collects briefing information on each event

•        Responsible for maintaining the internal operations of the team and coordinating the administrative aspects of the program work. This includes managing staff travel, expenditures, infrastructure, supplies, and a myriad of other operations details


QUALIFICATIONS


The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies and personal qualities:


•        Graduate from an accredited college or university

•        A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

•        Experience developing and implementing issue and/or legislative campaigns

•        Applied experience working with polling instruments, data and developing appropriate targeting strategies, both for public and member polling

•        Knowledge and experience in user research, targeting, direct mail, opposition research

•        Experience working collaboratively with community groups and allied organizations

•        Experience in developing political and legislative training programs

•        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•        Experience working on state legislative issues, as well as state and local elections

•        Working experience ensuring compliance with state and local campaign laws, including campaign finance laws

•        Knowledge of the NAACP, civic engagement campaign management, government bodies, issue campaigns concerning communities of color, and/or progressive organizations/unions and their operations

•        Knowledge and experience with managing voter contact and field campaigns

•        Ability to communicate effectively and develop and maintain good working relationships and to work in a team

•        Ability to manage and assess multiple programs and priorities and meet deadlines

•        Ability to manage and help develop grassroots civic engagement campaign plans, logistics and timelines

•        Ability to engage, nurture and encourage a diverse staff and membership

•        Knowledge of national, state, and local political landscapes

•        Candidates must have strong communication skills

•        Must be an excellent recruiter and be able to quickly build a team

•        Candidates must have a commitment to progressive change, great work ethic, and professionalism

•        Good quantitative analysis skills are key

•        Experience with small donor fundraising and/or field work required

•        This position requires travel
