Staff Accountant: The English-Speaking Union of the United States seeks a congenial outgoing individual for the position of Staff Accountant to work closely with the organization’s Operations Manager to administer organizational finances. The successful candidate must be an articulate, well-organized self-starter with exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills and fluency in QuickBooks

  • Record cash receipts and make bank deposits;
  • Oversee credit card collection processes internally and online, via PayPal;
  • Code and input accounts payable;
  • Calculate, prepare, and issue bills, invoices and account statements according to established procedures;
  • Maintain check register and prepare checks for payment of bills and Branch reimbursements for appropriate signature;
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of all bank and investment accounts;
  • Calculate and issue financial analysis of the financial statements;
  • Conduct periodic reconciliations of program funds to ensure accuracy;
  • Manage and maintain subsidiary LLC accounting books;
  • Tag and monitor fixed assets;
  • Maintain cash flow;
  • Maintain log of invoices issued/processed/sent;
  • Oversees the annual 990 tax return preparation overseeing logistics and coordinating the work of outside accountants;
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit and 990 tax return preparation;
  • Oversee, organize and administer the annual branch, LLC audit and 990 tax return preparation;
  • Generate 1099s for clients;
  • Create, maintain and monitor the annual budget. Calculate variances and report significant issues to management;
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system and chart of accounts.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Associate's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience;
  • Minimum of two years responsible accounting or bookkeeping experience including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reports;
  • Strong desire to expand knowledge base and grow in the position;
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, present financial materials both verbally and in writing to staff and board members;
  • Must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills with excellent command of the English language;
  • Must be detail oriented;
  • Proven knowledge of best practices with regard to bookkeeping and accounting including GAAP and FASB;
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, and
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit organizations and their special financial needs, including reporting and record keeping.
