  • APF is hiring for a full-time Director of Research & Operations to oversee all administration and management of the Foundation’s operations and research.
  • The Director serves as the APF President’s point person in ensuring that all operations function efficiently and at a high standard of performance.

About the Position

  • Time Commitment: 35 - 40 hours per week; this position will sometimes involve work in the evenings and weekends.
  • Salary: hourly, commensurate with experience
  • Responsibilities: This position includes the following responsibilities:
  • administrative support to APF President (manage the daily schedule and workflow of the President)
  • serve as lead drafter on various APF communications, including newsletters and messages from the President 
  • human resources support
  • manage APF grants administration and applications
  • management of APF email accounts and digital platforms 
  • budget & finances management, includes management of APF payroll, banking, and tax compliance
  • volunteer and membership services
  • management & administration of Board of Directors meetings
  • oversee the APF Research Fellows Program 
  • Location: This position is fully remote until further notice (upon improvement of the public health situation).
  • However, since APF is based in Washington, D.C., preference will be given to candidates located in the Washington, D.C. area.
  • When conditions allow, we will return to in-person events, which will require the staff to be present. Occasional domestic travel may also be required, also pending COVID-19 conditions.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 2-3 years of work experience or Master’s Degree with 1 year of work experience
  • Ideal candidates will have degree or coursework completed in business administration, accounting, nonprofit management, communications. 
  • Experience working in non-profit, NGO, or small business management is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in using and managing Zoom, Google Calendar, Microsoft Word; Excel
  • Strong project management, research, and writing skills are required. 
  • Experience with WildApricot, Canva, Slack, Squarespace, and/or PeopleGrove are a plus. 
  • Experience writing on behalf of others and for public audiences is preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude, and be resourceful in addressing challenges.
  • Must have outstanding organizational skills, with emphasis on time-management, attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
