This role is responsible for leading identified local, state, and federal issue campaigns, while working closely with the Director of Advocacy & Public Policy on implementation and to ensure that the overall advocacy and public policy goals are tracked and met.

 

This position will be directly engaged in work to advance our public policy platform by partnering with legislative champions and mobilizing advocates to push for hunger relief and poverty reduction – a key Food Lifeline strategic objective.


Essential Functions/ Major Responsibilities

 

  • Lead issue campaign development, coordination, and implementation.
  • At appropriate intervals, produce regular policy updates reflecting relevant legislative movement at all levels of government to help Food Lifeline advocacy team identify opportunities for engagement. 
  • Keep and maintain partnerships with allied advocacy organizations also active on hunger relief issues; identify opportunities for coordination and collaboration; establish new partnerships as appropriate.
  • Provide feasibility assessments of all Food Lifeline legislative advocacy priorities; help to prioritize engagement opportunities and maximize Food Lifeline advocacy capacity. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Food Lifeline allied organizational partners in statewide coalition settings.
  • Coordinate flow of information and direct advocacy team collaboration on coalition priorities such as shared lobby days, fly-ins, townhalls, and similar large-scale efforts. 
  • Advise Food Lifeline advocacy team on opportunities for collaboration or allyship as they arise. 
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with elected officials and their staff; direct lobbying.

 

Secondary Functions

 

  • Create content to support the Marketing and Communications team’s work to promote advocacy in social media and in other communications.
  • Support Food Lifeline’s community engagement work, for example, with subject matter expertise and through connecting people, community groups, and organizations to their work.
  • Attend community, coalition, and governmental meetings and participate as a member of Food Lifeline’s Advocacy & Public Policy team.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and committees and represents Food Lifeline at public events.
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications team on campaign collateral, including client stories, social media content, or event related content.
  • Support data collection for program evaluation and reporting to funding agencies. data tracking and reporting through dashboard reporting and project management tools
  • Other duties as assigned.
