WORK SCHEDULE:  The core schedule is Saturday-Thursday 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM, however, the schedule fluctuates to include early mornings, evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the organization and to carry out the position’s duties in the community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The Community Empowerment Coordinator position provides outreach and engagement support to CDTech’s Organizing, Civic and Community Engagement strategies, programs and projects in South Los Angeles both in-person and virtually.  The Community Empowerment Coordinator will primarily interface with South Los Angeles community stakeholders to educate, outreach and engage them in CDTech community and economic development efforts. 

Outreach efforts will target and engage Black and Brown US born and immigrant residents including families with mixed status, high school and community college students, small businesses, marginalized populations, community organizations and coalition partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

●       Coaching of Interns/Volunteers: Work in collaboration with management to identify and

support Interns and Resident Leader’s professional development to ensure they develop the skills required to align with CDTech’s Organizing, Civic and Community Engagement strategies. 

Coaching includes providing ongoing feedback, facilitating workshops and redirecting when necessary.  Modeling professional behavior and leadership development values is essential for

Interns and Resident Leaders.

●       Canvassing, Outreach & Education:  Utilize a variety of proven methods for diverse and special populations to achieve all goals established by management. The work includes large numbers of residents, youth and small businesses to provide them with critical information and resources,

solicit their input and feedback, generate and align interest in issues and seek engagement in activities, events and programs.

●       Recruitment & Retention:  Proactively identify and engage residents, youth and small businesses to participate in CDTech and collaborative partner’s programs, activities, events and actions and maintain their consistent involvement over time with increasing levels of

commitment in multiple engagement opportunities.  Support coaching efforts to keep leaders

engaged and developing their capacity.

●       Research/Impact/Evaluation: Collect, record and maintain both quantitative and qualitative data from residents, youth, small businesses and partners utilizing a variety of proven methods including digital and audio recordings; present aggregated or recorded data in a timely manner and an accessible format.

●       Partnerships:  Become knowledgeable about and support CDTech’s collaborative and community partnerships as required; foster healthy working relationships with CDTech’s partners and fellow staff by providing support; assist with communications systems and provide coordinated follow through on collaborative projects and other assignments.

●       Coordination/Accountability/Compliance:  Be an organizational stakeholder; maintain an active and constructive presence in CDTech’s internal culture of collaboration and comply with all administrative and program compliance requirements.

●       Alignment with CDTech’s mission: Plan, support and coordinate with Organizing, Civic and Community Engagement team to align all strategies, program and project assignments to support CDTech’s mission and vision.  Support CDTech strategies, programs and projects to improve economic conditions in SLA.

●       Collaboration with other CDTech programs:  Support other duties as assigned and all other duties specific to CDTech’s mission as requested, pending availability.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

●       Education:  Minimum qualifications for the position is a Community College Associate Degree or equivalent professional experience that meets the general knowledge section requirements listed below.

●       General Knowledge:  Basic understanding of the political, economic and social System’s impact on Black and Brown communities in general and South Los Angeles specifically.  Understand the policymaking process (local, state, national); understands power, privilege and oppression concepts; understands local issues, including the public/private sectors and the history of specific communities in the area; strong analysis of interpersonal and social structures; understands interracial and intercultural dynamics.  Willing to learn.

●       Professional Skills: Active listening; good verbal, non-verbal and written communication; able to support team building; ability to conduct and present research findings; time management; social-emotional intelligent leadership/organizing skills; prioritizing and being organized; able to multi-task; able to be resourceful and solve problems; writing, such as professional email and basic reports; using a computer - Office software, PowerPoint, internal database systems; phone answering; phone-banking; office equipment (i.e., printers, copiers, fax, etc.) and video/audio production operation and equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  physically conduct door-to-door outreach in neighborhoods, including commuting to and from neighborhoods and sites; requires extensive walking, climbing/descending stairs and standing in the targeted areas of South LA; lifting of boxes and equipment up to 50 pounds, carrying up and down stairs as well as level surfaces; setting up and moving tables, chairs and equipment within the training/meeting space; prolonged holding of video/audio recording devices and cameras; climbing step ladder to hang banners; cleaning up event and meeting sites.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Must have reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance.

Compensation

USD 31,200 - USD 35,360
Non-exempt Position Hourly rate translates to $15.00 - $17.00/hr
