The Institute for Behavioral Health within the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University is in search of a Research Associate. The position involves contributing substantively to a research project examining health insurance coverage for substance use treatment offered by Medicaid Health Plans. The Research Associate will perform general research tasks to advance project interests in a timely manner. Tasks include developing data collection instruments; gathering publicly available data from websites and other resources; collaborating with the survey contractor who will conduct interviews; performing quantitative data analyses using statistical analysis software (SAS or STATA) and Excel; assistance with preparation of articles, reports, and IRB submissions; project management. Experience with health care claims data analysis preferred.  

Job Description

  • Abstract data from health plan coverage documents and other sources – 15% time
  • Conduct quantitative data analyses using health care claims and other data – 20% time
  • Develop and maintain health plan contact database; create and use data management tools – 15%
  • Prepare or assist with presentations for conferences and meetings; prepare or assist with preparation and submission of IRB applications, consent forms, progress reports, manuscripts and other project materials – 20% time
  • Maintain contacts and relationships with team members and partners, assist with participant recruitment and retention -- 10% time
  • Provide general research support and conduct project tasks as required or assigned -- 10% time
  • Conduct administrative tasks to manage the project including tracking deadlines, sending reminders, and ensuring that the project activities and tasks are done in a timely manner -- 10% time

Job Requirements: MS/MA required, plus 1-3 years’ related work experience.

  • Able to be flexible in schedule occasionally (e.g., for proposal deadlines, off-hour interviews)
  • Must be able to travel to occasional out-of-state meetings/conferences
  • There is some flexibility in full/part time hours
