Overview:
Asociación SERniña (by REALgirl) is a Guatemalan charity with a mission to advance gender equity in Guatemala by supporting the empowerment of girls, women, and youth to reach their highest potential and become innovative leaders dedicated to the creation of safe, equitable, and just communities.
The Executive Director is the backbone of any strong organization, and acts as the ‘face’ of the organization to all internal and external stakeholders. SERniña is seeking an experienced, heart and human-centered, feminist, and self-motivated leader who is deeply passionate about our mission, has the skill set to lead hands-on operations, foster growth, and further develop and manage our holistic empowerment programs. The ideal candidate is emotionally intelligent, curious, open-minded, and fiercely committed to creating lasting change in the world. Applicants should feel enthusiastic and fully prepared to step up as a strong, confident, and dynamic leader, with excellent communication skills and a proven track-record of impeccable leadership and facilitation of organizational growth. The Executive Director will work in close collaboration with the other two co-directors, and lead a team of 12-15 staff members.
This position will be fully in person, Monday to Friday, based out of our Antigua, Guatemala office. The ideal candidate is already living in the area and plans to stay in the area on a long-term basis. SERniña’s operations are run in Spanish in Guatemala, most communications funders and grants are done in English, therefore fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Organizational Management
·. Occupy a leadership position within the organization and support SERniña in achieving its mission and vision
· Represent SERniña (REALgirl) in a professional, positive, and inspiring manner to all internal and external stakeholders
· Effectively represent the organization, promote a positive organizational image, and be the “voice” to all internal and external stakeholders
· Work alongside SERniña co-directors to oversee operations, administration, and human resources at SERniña
· Support the design, and lead the implementation and achievement of the organization’s strategic plan and key sustainability and operational goals, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and other leaders
· Support the Board of Directors, provide detailed reports for each Board meeting, and act as the organization’s representative and key contact for the Board of Directors
· Work in collaboration with our US branch (REALgirl) and Canadian Partners
· Design, implement, oversee, and adapt concrete project plans and department goals to ensure the success of the organization’s programs, alongside co-directors
· Have extensive previous experience in Guatemalan non-profits, and advanced knowledge and abilities in financial, legal, and operational management regulations and best practices in Guatemala
· Support with and supervise monitoring & evaluation strategies and practices
· Develop policies, practices, and capacity-building strategy to strengthen SERniña’s programs and team
Team Management
· Act as an empathetic and empowered leader dedicated to actively co-creating a positive, productive, and thriving workplace
· Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance, coaching, feedback, accountability, and supervision of staff locally
· With the support of the SERniña team, oversee and lead all responsibilities related to staffing, including, but not limited to: recruitment, hiring, identification of needs, distribution of responsibilities, evaluating performance, providing support, ensuring accountability, terminating contracts, and managing staff changes
· Oversee day-to-day organizational operations to ensure all activities are mission-focused, sustainable, efficient and of the highest quality possible
Finances,
· Oversee financial strategy of the organization including monitoring the budget’s health, monitoring incomes and expenses, and leading the completion of financial reports
· Confidently able to manage a budget of $350,000-$500,000 USD
· Experience managing funds and collaborating with Guatemalan and international banking institutions
Fundraising & Development
· Proven experience writing and being awarded grants ranging from $25,000 - $250,000 USD
· Direct and oversee fundraising and income generation efforts and strategy, including project development, grant writing, events, and online activities
· Create and nurture positive and collaborative relationships with major donors and foundational partners
· Provide on-going and regular oversight, monitoring, coaching and support to local projects
· Assesses needs of local partners to identify new projects and new funding ideas
