FOUNDATION SUMMARY

The mission of the Eagle Academy Foundation is to develop and support a network of all male, grades 6 through 12, college-preparatory, public schools in challenged, urban communities that educate and mentor young men into future leaders committed to excellence in character, scholastic achievement, and community service, and to promote these principles nationally. EAF accomplishes its mission through three essential programs: opening and managing Eagle Academy public schools in high needs neighborhoods in New York City and Newark, New Jersey to raise the academic achievement of inner-city young men; developing, refining and supporting the implementation of the Eagle Model, a research-based, outcomes-oriented pedagogical approach to educating young, urban men of color; and providing professional development coaching and support to Eagle leaders and teachers as well as to educators across the country working to change the life prospects for young men of color.


EAF is focused on three strategic priorities:

1.     Building its organizational infrastructure and capacity;

2.     Supporting and refining the implementation of the Eagle model to increase the academic achievement of inner-city young men, access to enrichment programming, and enhance the capability of educators to meet the needs of the students; and

3.     Scaling the Eagle model and expanding the Eagle Institute.


EAF’s revenue is comprised of funding from corporate, foundation, and government grants, individual contributions and special events. EAF seeks to increase those gifts and attract additional funding to spread its impact nationwide.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Manager will support and advance the fundraising efforts of the organization. S/he will work with the Director of Development, executive leadership, the Board of Directors, Eagle Academies, and colleagues across the Foundation to identify new opportunities and coordinate efforts to strengthen the organization’s current donor base and broaden its individual, corporate, foundation, and government gifts to achieve the annual budget, currently $3.9MM.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Fundraising and Donor Relations

·      Collaborate with the Director of Development to create and implement the annual fundraising plan—define goals, develop strategies, implement action plans, and track progress.

·      Help build a pipeline of potential individual and institutional funders and assist with their identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

·      Write grant proposals and pitch materials for individuals, corporations, foundation, and government funders.

·      Support the creation and implementation of annual fundraising goals and strategies for the President & CEO and Board of Directors.

·      Develop grant proposals and pitch materials, manage application requirements and meet submission deadlines.

·      Organize outreach efforts and manage existing and new donor relationships.

·      Schedule site visits and donor cultivation and engagement opportunities.

 

Grants Management and Fundraising Operations

·      Manage the development calendar and lifecycle of grants for corporate, foundation, and government funders.

·      Draft grant reports and fulfill funder requirements; maintain relevant digital and hard copy grant files.

·      Process donations in a timely manner and draft donor acknowledgment letters, emails, and personal notes.

·      Manage customer relationship database (Salesforce); perform data entry, track donations, and capture donor and prospect correspondence.

·      Perform prospect research and draft prospect profiles and briefings.

·      Develop fundraising progress to goal reports, individual and institutional donor history reports, and other reports as needed.


Events Management

·      Work with the Director of Development and external vendors to plan and execute the annual fundraising gala and other donor cultivation and stewardship events.

·      Provide creative input to develop branding, marketing, and collateral materials and e-blasts.

·      Process invoices and track expenditures against event budget.

·      Manage invitation lists, prepare seating arrangements and provide on-site event support.


Communications and External Affairs

·      Help conceptualize and implement an organization-wide communications strategy including social media.

·      Coordinate with department heads to align, integrate, and promote consistent messaging across the organization.

·      Develop and distribute periodic communications highlighting activities at Eagle Academies, EAF, and special events to the organization’s community of educators, parents, donors, partners, and friends.

·      Represent and promote the EAF mission and values to expand reach and awareness to external communities.

 

Skills & Qualifications

·      Bachelor's degree or more preferred with 7-10 years of experience in nonprofit, public sector, or private sector organizations.

·      Demonstrated success in development, fundraising, donor research, and cultivating new prospects and donors for a non-profit organization.

·      Experience building and managing relationships with internal and external constituents.

·      Experience communicating with a range of audiences including high net-worth individuals, corporate, foundation, and government leaders, and EAF partners and supporters.

·      Ability to interact effectively with a range of personalities and work collaboratively as part of a relatively small staff.

·      Adept at cross-team collaboration with a willingness to pitch in when and where needed.

·      Have exceptional judgment, creativity, and resourcefulness.

·      Can easily manage multiple priorities, assess needs and develop solutions.

·      Enjoy working with data and are a quick study of computer applications and programs.

·      Keep abreast of current trends by participating in convenings, workshops, and conferences that address local and national education issues as they impact young men of color.
