The ACLU of Georgia seeks a full-time voter rights community organizer who is ready to hit the ground running leading up to a historic election. This person will help grow and develop the affiliate’s capacity to educate and mobilize ACLU members, supporters and the general public around core voter rights issues, with an emphasis on combating voter suppression and expanding access to the ballot for the 2020 election. As in integral member of the Political Department, he/she/they will also lead our community organizing effort around redistricting reform, helping to advance a fair and transparent redistricting process following the 2020 census. This position is grant funded for one year, with the opportunity to extend.


Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and grow ACLU’s volunteer base who will take action with us on voter rights and redistricting reform.
  • Serve as overall point person for ACLU volunteer engagement, ensuring an array of engagement opportunities and serving as point person for core volunteer programs (i.e. poll worker recruitment, coordinating legal observers, etc).
  • Grow and manage the volunteer corps of the affiliate’s County Board of Election Monitoring project (known as the Peanut Gallery); this includes but is not limited to regular 1:1 with volunteers, recruiting new people, and leading trainings of new and existing Board monitors.
  • Provide critical back-end support (i.e. processing reports) to the Peanut Gallery program, including for partners involved.
  • Work with Policy Counsel and coalition partners to identify county level voter rights issues (primarily generated from the county monitoring program)
  • Organize community meetings, including logistics, outreach, agenda development and facilitation.
  • Mobilize ACLU supporters and volunteers to engage legislators at the capitol or through in-district meetings with state legislators in target locations.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience recruiting and sustaining volunteers
  • Experience coordinating logistics for meetings and/or events
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to successfully juggle multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, including an older demographic
  • Ability to work with and center historically marginalized or oppressed communities; this includes having a mature understanding of how structural racism, sexism, and prejudice our society.
  • Ability to travel and willingness to work irregular hours
  • Knowledgeable about voter suppression issues; basic knowledge or eagerness to learn about redistricting and other core voter rights issues facing us today.


Preferred:

  • Basic understanding of Georgia’s state legislative process
  • Spanish language, conversational, a plus.
