Senior Director of Research

YAI is seeking a senior-level researcher who has a strong background in health policy related to New York State's transformation to value-based performance and payments. We are interested in hiring a person with a collaborative spirit who can build our grant, research, and partnership portfolios.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Work with Executive Leaders in identifying and shaping strategic initiatives that align with emerging health care and disability policies
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams and provide oversight of currently funded initiatives to ensure deliverables are met
  • Lead and prepare federal, state, and foundation funded submissions
  • Oversee multiple initiatives that evaluate programs and services using both quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Work with Senior Leaders to identify, establish, and report on key performance indicators
  • Lead efforts to establish organizational processes to reliably capture organizational and quality data
  • Serve as the agency's in-house expert on emerging health care initiatives (e.g., DSRIP, NYS PCMH) and the agency's liaison on special projects with external partners and consultants


  • Masters' required, PhD preferred in health policy, health services research, public health, or other related field(s)
  • Minimum ten years of post-graduate research experience
  • Extensive knowledge of NYS policies related to healthcare
  • Knowledge of NYS policies related to intellectual/developmental disabilities (preferred)
  • Knowledge of value-based performance and payments
  • Strong research background (including survey development, program evaluation design)
  • Exceptional conceptualization and writing skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills
  • Established record of grant submissions and awards as well as written reports and publications
  • Experience working in health care settings
