Description

About Minds Matter Boston

Minds Matter Boston is three-year program that supports low-income, high achieving high school students and helps them reach their goal of attending a four year college with a robust financial aid package. Students receive one-on-one mentoring, professional ACT tutoring and the opportunity to attend an academic summer program for two consecutive summers. Minds Matter Boston is building a 60-minute writing module to help our students hone their writing and critical thinking skills. The organization is seeking a Writing Instructor to lead this module and teach our students the core competencies of writing: grammar, vocabulary, syntax, clarity, and the stages of the writing process. While our students are outstanding in their respective classrooms, they consistently score well below the national average in the above areas, and we are determined to provide programming to strengthen their skills in these areas.

Summary

A Writing Instructor will be responsible for teaching a class of motivated high-school students the fundamentals of the writing process. The Instructor will develop and deliver a series of 60-minute interactive lessons that guide students through brainstorming, writing, and revising an excellent argumentative essay or a research paper. As needed, the Instructor will provide written feedback on student progress and celebrate class achievements.
