The Executive Director of the Hampden Family Center (the Center) is the chief Executive
Officer of the organization. The Executive Director reports to the Board of
Directors and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of
its mission and financial objectives. The Director stewards the Center’s staff
and programs success and development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Development
Lead the Board of Directors in fundraising activities and in maintaining the financial
stability of the Center and its programs through the active cultivation,
solicitation and stewardship of individuals, corporations, foundations, and partners.
- Develop and maintain funding plan.
- Oversee grant writing and grant reports.
- Lead donor cultivation and retention efforts.
- With Event Committee, plan and execute fundraising events.
- Develop and strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders and constituencies.
- Attend all Board Meetings and prepare appropriate reports to ensure members are fully informed; provide members with priorities for board support.
Administration & Operations
Oversee all administrative and operations efforts of the Center; ensure that all strategies and systems enable the Center to deliver the highest quality of service.
- Assure that the Center has a long-range strategy to achieve its mission. Manage
execution and monitor progress.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Manage and maintain all official records, including merchant accounts, benefit plans, and vendor, funder, and employee files.
- Prepare and process payroll for all staff.
- Oversee building management and maintenance schedules.
Financial Management
-Oversee Center budgets and financial management. Responsible for maintaining sound financial practices.
- Prepare an annual budget with the Finance Committee.
- Ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines and effectively manages cash flow and accounts payable.
- Maintain and provide all records needed for the annual financial audit.
- Jointly, with the Executive Committee, conduct official correspondence of the
organization, and execute legal documents.
Personnel Management
-Responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
- Plan and conduct appropriate training and onboarding for new staff.
- Maintain all background check records; store securely in compliance with State
regulations.
- With the Personnel Committee, ensure that job descriptions are developed, regular performance evaluations are held, and sound human resource practices are in
place.
- Ensure that an effective management team, with proactive plans for succession, is in place.
- Encourage and promote professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers.
- Create a climate that attracts, develops, and motivates a diverse and dynamic staff.
Marketing & Public Relations
- Develop and implement an annual marketing and communications plan.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Center and actively seek opportunities to promote its mission and programs in all public forums.
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations, such as the Hampden Village Merchants Association and the Hampden Community Council.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s
Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
Experience: A minimum of five (5) year’s management experience
Demonstrated experience in developing and managing budgets
Demonstrated success in fundraising and development in an organization with a budget of $500,000+
Experience in executing a strategic plan
Knowledge: Knowledge of community-based organizations
Knowledge of best practices for non-profit operations, financial management and human resources
Skills: Understand and be committed to the overall philosophy of the Center and its dedication to serve people of all backgrounds and needs.
Ability to relate to people of diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; highly skilled in Outlook, Office, QuickBooks and donor management software.
