Position Summary: Children’s Aid (CA) summer camp programs, operate Monday through Friday, from 8:00pm to 6:00pm at elementary schools and Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at middle schools. During program hours, facilitators co-lead groups of students participating in academic enrichment and social emotional learning activities.  

Responsibilities: A Facilitator is responsible for the supervision and care of (up to) 20 children, which comprise a group or club. A Facilitator is a leader, who commits to teach by modeling and demonstrates characteristics that participants can learn from. It is essential that candidates applying for this position enjoy being around school age children, respects them as people, and seeks to include them in fun learning activities. A Facilitator is expected to be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children. During summer months, facilitators must ensure that children have a fun, engaging and safe summer.

Facilitators have to provide individual and group tutoring in areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics. In addition, facilitators are expected to develop classroom and behavioral management skills, implement professionally developed S.T.E.M, SEL curriculum, and develop relationships with children and their families. Lastly, they help in the design, plan and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of the classroom.

Additional duties include: participating in special events and supervision of children during field trips. Facilitators are responsible for attendance collection, assisting with student assessments, reporting and documenting critical incidents, participating in staff development opportunities and attend mandatory trainings. Facilitators will also need to communicate regularly with data entry staff, program director, education coordinator and other administrative staff regarding needs for materials and supplies and to support the implementation of clubs and curriculums. Facilitators are considered mandated reporters.

During the summer, facilitator assists in activities and tasks necessary to ensure an orderly operation of the program. They must supervise children during supper, ensure equipment is properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned. They must follow all safety regulations while inside and outside of the building and ensure the safety of the children. Facilitators are asked to attend regular staff meetings, trainings and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least one year of experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching is highly preferred.
  • Available from June through August.
