COME WORK WITH US! We are looking for a Fundraising & Communications Manager to effectively lead, manage, coordinate and monitor all fundraising and external communication activities in the organization in order to increase funding for our programs and maintain effective relationships with donors.

The job is based in San Juan la Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala.

At Organization for the Development of the Indigenous Maya (ODIM) we provide community-driven, high quality and culturally competent health and education services to the indigenous communities of San Juan and San Pablo la Laguna in Guatemala. Our services include two medical clinics as well as a dental clinic. With the intention of preventing ill health, an elevated quality of life and creating sustainable change, we also have five community health and education programs. We employ 48 staff in the two communities of San Juan and San Pablo la Laguna - 86% of which are Tz’utujil Maya.

Major Responsibilities

Plan, manager and develop communication and fundraising activities with donors, supporters and the public. 

  • Design and deliver ODIM's fundraising campaigns, events and other activities with the support of the Director of Development.
  • Maintain and develop ODIM's communication streams (emails, fb, in person, snailmail etc), keeping supporters up to date about ODIM's activities and fundraising needs.
  • Manage ODIM's regular giving programs, updating sponsors about beneficiary progress and monitoring payments.
  • Manage ODIM's donation database and work with the Finance Manager to ensure income is tracked and donor trends monitored. 
  • Collaborate and build relationships with local staff, foreign donors, beneficiaries and board members to accurately reflect ODIM's work and maximize ODIM's income.

Level of Language Proficiency

Essential:

  • Degree in Communications, Creative Writing, Marketing or a similar field 
  • Requires 1 year or more of experience in a similar role. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish language skills, Tz'utujil advantageous .
  • Experience with branding and production of printed and online materials.
  • Working in two rural towns of San Juan and San Pablo La Laguna (at Lake Atitlán). Working from home is encouraged during the pandemic, with some office work / days in the field. The successful candidate will need to be located at the lake and must commit to 18 months or more with ODIM.  

Desirable:

  • Intercultural communication, outstanding written english
  • US culture, Non-profit organizations, donor management software, social media applications, photography and video editing skills, Excel, Dropbox, Canva (or other design programs), Mailchimp all an advantage .
  • Experience in maintaining databases, updating websites and managing social media
  • An understanding of the development context in Guatemala and the challenges faced by the indigenous peoples in Guatemala.
  • The ideal candidate will be passionate about NGOs, social justice, and empowerment; knowledgeable or curious about mayan culture and history; and a talent for creating engaging communications.

Reports to Director of Development. Supervises 2 health promoters who work 10 hours per month creating thank you photos, and 1 videographer who works x hours per month.
