Executive Director

Title: Executive Director.

Part-time remote position with flexible hours, aside from required presence at Sunday morning and Wednesday evening sessions and quarterly board meetings. Averages approximately 10-15 hours/week.

Starting salary: $25,000.

Reports to: Guiding Teacher and President of Board of Directors

Organization: Community of Peace and Spirituality dba COMMUNITY MEDITATION CENTER

The Community Meditation Center (CMC) is a New York City based nonprofit which offers meditation/teaching sessions twice a week. Since the onset of COVID, all sessions have been held virtually, but the current plan is to return to in-person sessions when safe, possibly with some virtual sessions as well. The primary session is on Sunday from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. Virtual attendance is between 140 and 250 attendees. Wednesday evening’s sessions are from 6:30-7:30 drawing 20-30 attendees. In-person Sunday sessions were held on NYC’s Upper West Side.

CMC meets year-round, typically with three weeks off at the end of summer and at year-end. Position Overview: The responsibilities of the Executive Director include:

-Serve as a steward for the good and welfare of CMC and its community (the sangha)

-Manage the business and operations of CMC

-Ensure the smooth running and success of Sunday morning and Wednesday evening sessions, taking into consideration the needs of the Guiding Teacher, other teachers, and members of the sangha.

-Supervise the setup of the physical meeting space

-Serve as liaison between CMC and meeting space landlord (for in-person meetings) or online platform (Zoom)

-Communicate with the sangha regularly (and in special circumstances if needed) via weekly e-mail and other means of social media.

-Attend quarterly board meetings

-Plan and help to transition CMC from virtual zoom sessions to in-person sessions (possibly both)

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills: The ideal candidate would possess these abilities, skills, understanding, and knowledge:

-New York City area resident able to attend all Sunday and all Wednesday sessions and quarterly board meetings

-Self-starter able to successfully plan, manage, and maintain initiatives

-Practitioner of meditation

-Excellent writing skills (for emails, website posts/content, etc.)

-Able to stand in front of a group (virtual and in-person) to introduce teachers and make announcements

-Basic computer skills (MS Word, Mailchimp, Zoom) and computer access to work remotely

-Proficient and/or willing to learn PayPal, Square, and how to make simple edits on website

-Social media skills
