Organizational Background:

The Center for Advancing Domestic Peace has been working to build safe homes and communities since 2003.

The Center is the only Chicago-area nonprofit solely dedicated to working to stop domestic violence where it starts by helping those who have harmed take responsibility for their behavior, create healthy relationships, and strengthen their communities. Our partner abuse intervention services - offered in English and Spanish - are available to both men and women regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. 

This Grant Writer is a part-time position, reporting to the Executive Director. Candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years of grant writing experience.

 Key Responsibilities

• Manage relationships with current grantors

• Research, identify, and expand additional funders both locally and nationally

• Develop grant budgets and forecasts working with the Executive Director

• Write and submit effective grant proposals/applications to support existing and emerging program initiatives and general operating needs

 • Track grant submission and reporting dates, plus deliverables and closing activities; maintain the grants calendar; monitor progress and ensure that all deadlines are met on time or ahead of schedule

• Work collaboratively with the program team to gather data for grants and with finance to meet reporting requirements in grant agreements

• Develop realistic action plans

• Handle multiple assignments

• Meet grant submission deadlines and goals

• Maintain a thorough understanding of the organization's services, goals, mission, and strategic direction

• Other duties as assigned 

Essential Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor's degree

• Commitment to the mission of the Center for Advancing Domestic Peace

• At least 5 years of experience working in a non-profit setting and preferably experience in working with victims/survivors of domestic violence or those who harm

• Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated successful experience writing and securing grants for foundation, corporate, and  government funding

• Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment

• Ability to meet grant submission and reporting deadlines

• Strong, persuasive verbal and written communication skills and proofreading ability

• Excellent organizational, prioritization, deadline-driven, project management, accountability, and time management skills

 • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

• Good understanding of public funding sources (e.g. municipal, county, and state) and the private philanthropic community in Chicago and surrounding suburban areas.

• Familiarity with key financial concepts and ability to read financial documents

Covid-19 Considerations:

We are primarily working remotely but are making plans for a

hybrid model which includes a combination of remote and office work. When

working at the office staff are required to wear a mask as are clients with

procedures for consistent office sanitization in place.

Salary

Hourly wage based on experience and negotiated at the time of hire.
