Communications Specialist

CAI, a training, technical assistance, and research-to-practice nonprofit organization, is seeking a highly motivated professional for the full-time position of Communications Specialist to work with CAI’s Technical Assistance Provider – innovation network (TAP-in). The position may be based in CAI’s NYC Office, CAI’s Atlanta Office, or CAI’s Los Angeles Office. 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

CAI’s Technical Assistance Provider – innovation network (TAP-in) provides cross-cutting and tailored technical assistance (TA) to 47 jurisdictions (i.e., state or local health departments) across the nation that are funded by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) to design and implement locally tailored plans to improve access to treatment, foster retention in services, and achieve durable viral suppression for people living with HIV as part of the nation’s plan to End the HIV Epidemic (EHE).  The Communications Specialist reports to the TAP-in Knowledge Management Team Lead and is responsible for working with the TAP-in team and CAI’s Curriculum Development and Communications departments to manage the development of resources and tools to foster strengthening and implementation of the EHE initiative. The Specialist provides support for a portfolio of project activities to plan, implement, evaluate and continuously improve communications strategies to achieve project goals and objectives. Key activities are summarized below.  

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to) 

• Coordinate the development of an overall communications plan for TAP-in. The communications plan will serve as the foundation and guidance for development of all resources, including webinar slide decks, marketing resources, curricula and implementation guides, a project-specific website, and miscellaneous forms, documents, and materials. 
• Work closely with TAP-in and other CAI staff, subject matter experts, consultants, and vendors to assist with design of all materials. This responsibility includes oversight for the design (directly or in conjunction with a consultant), development and editing of content; developing and managing a schedule and logistics for publication/production; and ensuring adherence to agency and funder standards and minimum levels of quality. 
• Develop templates and guidelines for the design of all communications materials (i.e., reports, PowerPoints, project presentations, data visualizations) and assist staff throughout design and production phases to ensure high quality materials are available for TAP-in. 
• Coordinate development of a project website by working with a consultant agency to manage input and feedback from the TAP-in team. 
• Ensure materials are graphically appealing and meet federal government accessibility requirements (508 compliance) for electronic posting. 
• Ensure consistent, clear and appropriate branding across all TAP-in products and public-facing sites. 
• Support the TAP-in team in development, management and production of materials. 
• Working with TAP-in and other CAI staff and consultants, support a feedback process to improve communications and materials development protocols and procedures. 
• Assist with the dissemination of materials developed by the TAP-in project by managing under the direction of the Team Lead and Project Director, the TAP-in account on the Target HIV website, and coordinating dissemination efforts with the EHE Systems Coordination Provider.  
• Participate in various organizational and project meetings to coordinate efforts within the project and between the project and CAI departments.   
• Other duties as necessary/assigned. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS: 

Expertise in HIV and/or experience providing communications support in a public health arena, preferred. Summary of requirements is provided below. 

• Bachelor’s Degree required 
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications and materials development, preferably within a non-profit and/or public health organization 
• Excellent written and verbal communication with proficiency in grammar and English usage 
• Technical understanding of accessibility requirements, including Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 
• Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, in a fast-paced environment 
• Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to multi-task/manage multiple projects 
• Must possess the ability to professionally interact with co-workers, project partners and consultants 

PREFERRED SKILLS: 

• Basic knowledge and interest in UX design (principles, practices, theories, software, etc.) 
• Basic knowledge of creative suite applications (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) 
• Basic knowledge of content management software (Wordpress, Joomla, or Drupal) 
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft OneDrive and Sharepoint 
• Email marketing experience (GetResponse, MailChimp) 
• Digital forms and survey experience (Formstack, SurveyMonkey, Alchemer)
