Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools- AROS

The Baltimore Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools is a coalition of parents, educators, students, school staff, and community groups fighting for an equitably funded, quality public education system. Participating organizations have a rich history of deep community organizing in the City, learning from the successes and failures of past coalitions, we came together to create a new alliance that would win the public schools Baltimore City’s students deserve.

While we started less than 6 months ago, Baltimore AROS groups already include: Organizing Black, Baltimore Teachers Union, AFT-MD, Students Organizing for a Multicultural and Open Society (SOMOS), ACLU-MD, Baltimore Algebra Project, Communities United, Teachers Democracy Project (TDP), Good Kids MAAD City Baltimore, Baltimore Movement Of Rank and file Educators (BMORE), Palestinian Youth Movement DMV Chapter, and Baltimoreans for Educational Equity (BEE).

Maryland Communities United

Communities United is a grassroots, membership organization of low to moderate income individuals and families in Maryland. Our mission is leadership development and community organizing that builds power to win transformative change for social, economic, and racial justice. Our current organizing-model focuses on ex-offender enfranchisement and quality of life, expansion of sustainable public community schools, effective approaches to addiction that reduce harm and support recovery, reducing violence, defunding police to refund communities, promoting trauma-informed policies and resilience in Baltimore, and confronting horrible housing conditions low-income residents suffer in Baltimore.

The Parent Organizer supports the work of the AROS table and is beholden to the expectations of the coalition, though managed by Communities United.
