In this the UN’s declared International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor, this newly created position will lead the effort to solidify GoodWeave International as a leading source of evidence-backed data and practical, supply chain experience in policy, donor, and activist circles. The Senior Manager will marry this agenda with strategic fundraising that emphasizes bilateral donor agencies in countries where child labor sourcing/due diligence laws have been enacted. The goal is to both contribute to GoodWeave’s target to free 30 million children from labor by 2025, and to advance global policies and practices to also confront child labor.

The Senior Manager of Advocacy and Development will create and implement GoodWeave’s annual advocacy and fundraising plan. In addition to managing a team of staff and consultants, they will regularly collaborate and coordinate across departments internally and with partner colleagues based in the US, Europe and South Asia.

The Senior Manager will report directly to the CEO. The position is based in Washington, D.C., with some domestic and international travel. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team player, well-organized, detail-oriented, innovative, and skilled at all levels of communication, strategic thinking, and relationship building. The candidate will possess a commitment to GoodWeave’s values and work ethic and ideally have experience working in issues of social justice.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead GoodWeave’s advocacy and fundraising efforts, including direct management of a staff and consultants.
  • Coordinate with program team members to draft grant proposals, report on active grants, and cultivate new and existing donors.
  • Draft and implement annual strategic advocacy and fundraising plans.
  • Maintain existing donor relationships and programs, including individual and major gifts, corporate and private foundation grants, and multi- and bilateral donor agreements.
  • Lead new partner, program and proposal development in close cooperation with the program team.
  • Lead engagement and participation in multi-stakeholder coalitions and initiatives to inform policy positions, theme and content of workshops and meetings, and secure speaking engagements.
  • Engage key government stakeholders surrounding relevant policy development and implementation guidelines, especially in connection to child labor, modern slavery, transparency and other human rights due diligence legislation.
  • Lead preparation for external meetings, conferences and other events, including speechwriting and drafting of handouts and visual presentations.
  • Engage with the organization’s communications, business development, program, and evaluation and learning teams as appropriate to ensure strategic alignment and cross-departmental execution.
  • Contribute to GoodWeave’s annual planning and budgeting process; prepare reports and presentations for internal and external events.
  • Support recruitment and supervision of staff and consultants when necessary.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in advocacy and fundraising positions with nonprofit organizations in human rights or ethical business arenas.
  • Track record raising public and private funds, including bilateral and multilateral agencies.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of development including foundation, corporate, individual, and government donor cultivation, proposal writing and appeals, reporting, and planning.
  • Supervisory experience of at least a small team and the ability to work in a fast-paced, small environment.
  • Fantastic writing – the ability to distill complex ideas to be easily understood, and to call upon multiple voices for a variety of audiences
  • The ability to effectively network and build relationships with civil society, government and donor organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience working across geographies and cultures.
  • Experience actively contributing to the success of programs, through input on strategy, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Understanding of project management tools, including theory of change, results framework, and Gantt chart.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse team members and contribute to a team environment, particularly working with international colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal skills, including interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English required; other languages an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with issues of child labor and forced labor, sustainable production, standards and certification, partnership development, fundraising, and/or knowledge of South Asia are pluses.
  • Understanding of and passion for GoodWeave’s mission and socially driven business model.
