The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for the development and implementation of all alumni-related programs and activities, including reunions, communications, special events, and the management of other alumni volunteer efforts. The Director of Alumni Relations works collaboratively with other members of the Development Office staff, under the supervision of the Associate Head of School for Advancement & COO — while maintaining independent responsibility for alumni programs. Periodic travel and weekend commitments are involved. Field plans to expand its current alumni program and is seeking someone to design, implement and support this new initiative.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential along with strong relationship building experience and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Candidate must have strong organizational skills. Field has a fast-paced work environment, but also values personal development and work-life balance.

Specific responsibilities of this position include:

  • Planning and implementing a comprehensive alumni relations program including: several local and regional alumni events annually, class reunions, young alumni and senior lunches, and related events and programs to facilitate relationship building with this constituent group.
  • Monitoring the alumni program budget and tracking alumni program expenses.
  • Developing effective communication with the alumni body by actively seeking to expand, correct, and maintain the alumni contact and personal information contained within the alumni database, which includes finding contact information for “lost” alumni, soliciting updates from class volunteers, etc.
  • Responding to all inquiries and requests from alumni as the primary alumni contact.
  • Developing strategies for implementation and maintenance of an integrated, appealing, and useful web presence for the alumni and friends communities.
  • Maintaining the Field School Alumni Facebook and Linked In groups.
  • Writing and publishing a regular e-newsletter for distribution to alumni. Gathering campus news and event information, writing columns for publication.
  • Recruiting, training, and managing alumni volunteers, class-reunion representatives, and others.
  • Planning and implementing alumni fundraising strategies through direct mail, email and personal solicitation. Researching, identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding alumni prospects and donors.
  • Working with alumni volunteers to write and revise solicitations for the Annual Fund and special campaigns.
  • Keeping meticulous records of alumni contact, attendance, volunteering, and news in database.
  • Providing alumni metrics monthly to the Director of Development, the Alumni Task Force and the Board of Trustees.


The ideal candidate has 2-5 years of alumni relations experience in education institutions, experience with planning and managing special events, experience identifying, training and working with volunteers, excellent oral and written communication skills, familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, website applications and social networking sites, and is deadline and detail-oriented.

This is a full-time, year-round position that enjoys the school’s vacation and holiday schedule during the school-year.
