About Gender Spectrum

Gender Spectrum’s mission is to create a gender-inclusive world for all children and youth. We’ve come a long way since our inception in 2007. We are now the leading organization in the country addressing evolving understandings of gender with a focus on issues related to children and youth.

We run the oldest and largest conference in the world, specifically for trans and nonbinary kids, their families, and professionals. Our first conference in 2007 had about 40 people (kids, parents and professionals) in a hotel conference room. This year 1,400 people attended a one- day professional symposium and a two-day family conference.

We have developed a reputation as the national leader in issues of youth and gender. As the trusted experts in this field, we educate and train youth-related professionals. Last year alone we trained educators of 33 million children on youth and gender.

To serve the growing demand for support and information throughout the country, we launched an online forum called The Lounge. The Lounge provides online content, community and discussion groups for youth, family members and professionals. This is a key focus of the organization now and will be even more so in the future. We have members of the online community from all 50 states and (at last count) 47 countries and every continent.

These are just a few of our programs. We have other projects in the works, including partnering on a documentary and expanding our impact in the corporate world.

Position Summary

Before bringing a full-time development person on board, we wanted a strong foundation of reputation and results to help ensure the DD's success. We believe we have that now.

This newly created leadership position gives our first Development Director the opportunity to create a multifaceted development program to fund Gender Spectrum’s mission and goals. Historically, we have been funded by a small group of donors. With the scaling of our organization, we are ready to grow and diversify our support. An independent consultant recently completed an assessment of our fundraising to date, giving us a clear picture of the opportunities for growth as well as valuable insight for the new Development Director. We are looking for someone with strong program building and coaching skills to join our small but mighty team.

The Development Director will establish a multi-pronged resource development program including identifying and cultivating major donors, overseeing grassroots fundraising, and developing and growing relationships with institutional funders.

The Development Director will coach, support, collaborate with, and engage Board Members, staff, and other high-level volunteers to achieve revenue goals, championing fundraising participation throughout the organization. A key participant on the communications team, the Development Director will convey the vision, values and impact of the organization’s work to current and prospective institutional funders and donors while creating a culture of gratitude and stewardship.

We value thought and cultural diversity and strongly encourage people of color and gender- expansive people to apply.
