Congressional Progressive Caucus Center (CPCC) is seeking 2 paid legislative policy fellows to be placed in Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) offices on Capitol Hill. Each fellow will focus their expertise on a single issue. We are currently looking to fill policy fellow positions focused on:

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) consists of one United States Senator and over 90 members of the United States House of Representatives. Established in 1991, the CPC reflects the diversity and strength of the American people, seeks to give voice to the needs and aspirations of all Americans, and builds a more just and humane society.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to connect grassroots leaders, organizations, and Congressional offices to build a more powerful and cohesive movement, so that we can win more concrete victories for progressive values. In support of progressive values, we foster powerful partnerships on a host of issues, including:


  • Economic opportunity for all;
  • Peace and global security;
  • Energy independence and environmental sustainability;
  • Civil rights, civil liberties, and human rights;
  • Immigration justice and a pathway to citizenship

The Congressional Progressive Caucus Center Legislative Fellowship is designed for emerging leaders who want to develop their own professional skills in policymaking and social change by learning from and working within a strong legislative operationin a congressional office. The CPC Center Legislative Fellows Program is an educational program that seeks to provide educational opportunities for people with an interest in policy and advocacy. Fellows are generally early to mid-career professionals with substantive experience in policy or advocacy but no previous work experience on the Hill.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


This Fellowship will provide exposure to legislative processes and procedures, practical experience with how the House of Representatives works, and opportunities for interaction with constituents and issue stakeholders. To enrich the educational experience, the Fellow will join other CPC Center Legislative Fellows in a program orientation, trainings and briefings, as well as networking events. This is a paid fellowship with an initial term of six months. After the CPC Center completes a midterm evaluation, the Fellow may be invited to extend for an additional six months.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Significant experience in the progressive movement, such as work experience in an advocacy, grassroots, labor, or research organization and/or a graduate degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to progressive values.
  • Experience and demonstrated interest in the specific policy area for which you apply.
  • Interest in learning about Congress and federal policymaking.
  • Responsiveness to direction and feedback.
  • Proven ability to innovate, intuit, and collaborate.
  • Ability to produce high-quality materials quickly and professionally, with attention to nuance.
  • Self-starter with ability to work on several simultaneous projects with minimal direct supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and GoogleDocs.

Benefits

The Fellow is a full-time staff member of Congressional Progressive Caucus Center though placed at a CPC member office. The position includes paid health insurance benefits and a 401(k) match. This position begins with a six-month evaluation commitment at first, and a likely extension to one year following a performance review. (Fellows are often invited and are encouraged to apply for full-time positions that become available in Hill offices.)
