POSITION

The Pahara Institute is looking for a values-driven leader in our new Director of Selection. This is a highly visible role, one reflecting both the projected growth of Pahara’s emerging portfolio and our desire to center racial-equity as a first order priority in Selection and our broader organization strategy. The Director of Selection must believe in the transformative power of leaders; have the skills, experience, and network necessary to identify and evaluate them; and the personal qualities needed to thrive in a diverse and entrepreneurial environment.

The Director of Selection is expected to achieve the following goals:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Vice President, Selection to develop racial-equity centered vision and direction for Selection that are aligned with Pahara’s values and mission;
  • Partner on the development of marketing, sourcing, and selection strategies for our Fellowships and other programming, ensuring equity at every stage;
  • Lead the development and execution of candidate identification and marketing strategies to ensure a robust pipeline of exceptional, values-aligned candidates who meet program criteria across an array of diversity domains;
  • Lead the evaluation and vetting of candidates against program and cohort profiles, curating the development and selection of diverse cohorts of outstanding leaders;
  • Steward relationships with candidates through the life-cycle of their candidacy, ensuring outstanding candidate experience and communications at appropriate points during the selection process;
  • Steward deeply relational partnerships and nominator engagement, with clarity of expectations, transparency, and timely updates; 
  • Build mechanisms to evaluate nominator and candidate experience to inform process improvement; and
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of equitable, selection-best practices, and continuous learning.

Compelling candidates will have:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years professional experience;
  • Significant experience as an interviewer, including a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in human capital, executive recruiting, and/or leadership development;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in dialogue with diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities, with sensitivity and understanding; 
  • Ability to engage executive-level leaders with thoughtful and challenging questions;
  • Proficiency at assessing and screening for both hard and soft leadership skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver timely, relevant information in a clear and concise manner; 
  • Ability to balance a high volume of communications and execute against goals on time and to high standards;
  • Track record of success in diverse, results-oriented, mission-driven organizations;
  • Strong judgment in navigating relationships and complex decisions; 
  • A Bachelor’s degree;
  • A deep network of leaders in education reform; 
  • A deep understanding of inequity in American education, including issues of systemic and institutionalized racism; and
  • Strong cultural competence across multiple vectors of difference.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Selection will report to the Senior Vice President in the Selection Department. The Director will supervise one coordinator, and will often serve as a project lead and will be expected to provide management support to more junior staff for those projects. 


LOCATION 

We are a virtual organization by design so that our professionals can work where they have built their lives. Our campus in the Denver area will serve as a hub for our work and as the main location for all in-person events. Candidates who live outside the Denver area will have an increase in required overnight travel to the campus.
