The Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to fund advanced neuroscience research into the origins, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of depression and it related mood disorders.  In addition, we raise awareness about depression in order to dispel myths and remove the stigma that still surrounds the illness.

HDRF presents an exciting opportunity for a Development Professional who is a self-starter and who will work with the Executive Director to design, implement and manage a comprehensive development program to increase the Foundation’s donor base in all categories:  foundation, corporation, and individual giving.  The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational skills and the desire to work with an energetic team, building the national presence of a 15-year old foundation on the cutting-edge of medical research.  The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director.

We are seeking a motivated individual who can work independently and is capable of communicating the mission and objectives of the organization to potential funders and the general public.    

Experience:

Specifically, the position requires experience in the following areas:

  • Fundraising: institutional (foundation and corporation) and individual
  • Preparation of marketing and public relations materials
  • Preparation of written grant applications and letters of inquiry
  • Strong track record of success in securing gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations.

Specific Duties:

  • Work with the Executive Director to establish and maintain relationships with foundations, corporations and individual donors
  • Work with the Director of Special Events to write outreach letters to donors and prospects for our three annual events (a Luncheon and the Winter and Summer Race of Hope)
  • Conduct research to identify new opportunities to grow corporate and foundation donor base
  • Write proposals and Letters of Inquiry and prepare grant proposals
  • Organize meetings and presentations to current and potential donors
  • Help proof and approve messaging created for our social media platforms

Qualifications:

BA/BS required

At least 7-10 years of solid work experience of which last 3-5 years in non-profit environment in the area of development

Experience in the medical and science fields a plus

Journalism experience a plus

Excellent written and oral communication skills
