The Advocacy Coordinator will implement La Clinica’s immigrant health equity initiative, working collaboratively with the community, stakeholders and regional coalitions to raise awareness on Latino immigrant health issues, and to achieve health equity for immigrants in the region.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.    Work closely with LCDP Executive Director and Senior Director of Health Equity and Community Action to implement La Clinica’s Advocacy Committee work plan for its immigrant health equity initiative, and provide written reports on progress as required:

·      Convene and co-facilitate LCDP Advocacy Committee monthly meetings;

·      Recruit and train a cadre of Health Promoters to implemented community mobilization and awareness campaigns;

·      Organize Community Forums and health consumers committees;

·      Convene and co-facilitate key stakeholder group/coalition to develop and implement strategies to address inequities in health insurance access for Latino and other immigrants and advance greater understanding, regionally, of the role of immigration as social determinant of health;

·      Coordinate La Clinica’s participation in projects and coalitions addressing health equity for Latinos and other immigrants in suburban Maryland;

2.    Employ strategic community building and organizing techniques to mobilize  key internal and external stakeholders around Latino and other immigrant health equity, including community leaders, community members, policy makers, community based organizations, health centers, private and public insurance organizations and funders;

3.    Work closely with LCDP leadership team to capture and stay abreast of key medical, mental health, language access, and public health equity issues affecting Latino immigrants in our area to systematically define and revise La Clinica’ immigrant health equity priorities;

4.    Represent or coordinate representation of La Clinica in key decision-making and/or public policy forums related to health, health reform, health disparities, and health equity, preparing materials, testimony, and supporting participants to represent La Clinica’s positions and priorities;

5.    Organize logistics for health equity initiative meetings, briefings, workshops, convening and/or forums;

6.    Share and disseminate information related to the immigrant health equity initiative and related issues with relevant internal staff and community in a timely and accessible manner;

7.    Work collaboratively with key staff throughout organization who are engaged in immigrant health equity work;

8.    Attend required trainings to increase/maintain skills;

9.    Attend program, department, and all staff meetings and all mandatory La Clinica activities;

10. Follow La Clinica’s Code of Conduct and all other personnel Policies and Procedures;

11. Perform other duties as assigned.


•     Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience in relevant field, required

•     Minimum two years community mobilization and/or coalition building experience, required

•     Knowledge of and commitment to Latino immigrant health, immigrant health disparities, and/or health equity issues, required

•     Knowledge of the changing landscape of the health field at the local, regional, and national level, preferred

•     Excellent interpersonal skills, community mobilizing skills, and conflict mediation skills

•     Ability to organize and facilitate meetings with all levels of stakeholders, including policy makers, community based organizations and health centers, and community members

•     Excellent verbal and writing skills

•     Ability to work independently and within a team structure

•     Ability to understand and use data to build advocacy agenda

•     Proven ability to work effectively and creatively with diverse people and groups

•     Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends

•     Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and a willingness to develop additional skills as needed.
