The Manager of Student Financial Services (SFS) will be an integral part of Relay’s financial aid team and support the Director of SFS in the overall management of technical and data operations to enhance quality assurance, streamline processes, and maintain compliance. Reporting to the Director of SFS, the Manager of SFS must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment to manage conflicting priorities and work under deadlines. This individual must be detail-oriented, and able to leverage problem solving and project management skills to meet team goals. Additionally, this individual must be able to demonstrate empathy, critical thinking, and have strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills. A successful Manager of SFS must collaborate with colleagues at every level, encourage teamwork, and have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES

  • Evaluates departmental processes to ensure efficiency and compliance, and identifies gaps and opportunities for improvement while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Conducts testing for system "patches," updates, and new releases.
  • Oversees and recommends efficiency changes to all system-related operations of SFS, including but not limited to file exchanges between SFS, Relay’s bursar, and federal and state departments.
  • Works with other members of the Relay community to ensure the successful implementation of new technologies and related systems.

 

AWARDS, AUDITS, AND REPORTING

  • Performs reviews of all financial aid offers and disbursements.
  • Reviews packaging and repackaging of aid, managing student changes in status and determining student funding eligibility.
  • Packages and awards financial aid for all students when necessary.
  • Configures and audits the financial aid systems to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of SFS systems.
  • Administers and conducts monthly, term, and yearly reconciliation of all federal financial aid programs such as Direct Loans and TEACH Grants.
  • Develops reports to meet the data needs of the institution.


POLICIES AND COMPLIANCE

  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and other financial aid program regulations and institutional policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of financial aid compliance and procedural requirements.
  • Develops a deep understanding of and serves as the subject matter expert in all SFS policies regarding financial aid requirements, in order to support graduate students and faculty in navigating the Relay student experience.
  • Supports SFS team with special projects, as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with PowerFAIDS systems strongly preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Acute attention to detail and a focus on efficiency and systems-building.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and adapt to new policies and processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive applications.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an eye to equitable policy implementation and increasing access to graduate-level teacher preparation.
  • Entrepreneurial outlook and commitment to Relay’s mission to improve student outcomes, close opportunity gaps, and rethink how we prepare our educators.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and a minimum of two years related experience.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
