The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse is seeking part-time Research Assistants to participate in an innovative research project on family therapy for adolescent substance use.


Duties include watching/listening to recorded therapy sessions and employing an observational rating scale to code therapy techniques. RAs will be required to participate in a training process and attend a meeting on Fridays at 1pm to ensure ongoing reliability with other coders. Students in psychology or social work graduate programs are encouraged to apply, particularly those with an interest in family therapy. Spanish speaking required. Commitment will be for 5-7 hours per week until October 2018 at a rate of $20-$25 per hour.  


The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse is an independent policy and research center located in midtown Manhattan that serves as a leading voice on substance abuse and addiction. We educate the general public, conduct research, and advocate for improvements in policy, prevention, and treatment for the addictions. We have a strong record of partnering with academic institutions, health systems, community-based organizations and New York State government agencies in investigating the clinical and economic benefits of healthcare reform efforts.
