Philanthropy and Nonprofit Equity Consultant

Time commitment: Part-time contract for 8 to 16 hours a week, to be negotiated based on mutual needs.

Compensation range: $35 to $50 an hour, depending on experience

Timeframe: One-year contract, starting summer or fall 2022, with option to renew if mutually agreeable and if funding allows.

Location: Remote; some Boston-area onsite work desirable but not essential.

Reports to: Staffing the Mission (StM) Coordinator Betsy Leondar-Wright, Class Action Board Member

Scope of Services / Job Description

Class Action’s Staffing the Mission project aims to make burnout nonprofit jobs less common and sustainable jobs more common, as part of our mission to reduce class, race and gender inequity.. 

1. Networking

• Reach out to foundations, nonprofits and sector advocacy organizations
• Build up Advisory Council and funder affinity group(s)
• Serve as liaison with equity-minded foundations and advocates

2. Public education and public speaking

• Seek and fulfill conference presentation opportunities
• Collaborate on development of webinars and workshops for nonprofits and foundations; market and co-facilitate them

3. Publicity

• Raise visibility of Staffing the Mission in social media and earned media
• Solicit and create new content as needed
• Research, analysis, writing and editing report(s)

4. Assist in fundraising for Staffing the Mission 

Qualifications required to apply:

• Demonstrated commitment to social justice; alignment with Class Action’s mission, vision and intersectional race/class analysis;
• 5+ years experience in program, management, or development positions in the nonprofit and/or philanthropic sectors;
• Some experience or familiarity with community organizing and/or labor organizing;
• Some experience or familiarity with foundations and the philanthropy sector; 
• Excellent communications skills: social media; public speaking; media relations;
• Research and writing; detail-oriented and experienced at being accountable for data accuracy;
• Demonstrated competence at outreach, networking and organizing.

Desired but not required qualifications (meriting the higher end of pay range):

• Popular education workshop design and facilitation experience;
• Relationships with equity-minded foundations and/or advocates for justice in the philanthropy sector; experience pressing for change in the philanthropy sector;
• Grant-writing track record;
• Data analysis experience, qualitative and/or quantitative;
• Knowledge of equity issues in nonprofit management, HR and compensation;
• Graphic art skills;
• Program development skills
