Assistant Manager of Development

Reporting to the Development & Communications Manager, the Assistant Manager of Development will be responsible for overall strategy and execution of ImmDef’s development initiatives. The AMD will be the primary contact for outside funding partners and will manage the organization’s grants, contracts, donations, and other revenue streams. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to speak passionately and persuasively about ImmDef’s mission and the impact potential funding will have on the communities we serve.


Essential Functions

1.    Develop internal systems, communications, and protocol to support, secure, and sustain opportunities for funding, including grant development, application and reporting

2.    Create and maintain systems and procedures to ensure contract and grant compliance for all of ImmDef’s current funding sources

3.    Oversee fund development for ImmDef, to establish and execute on strategies to increase revenues, including through annual, major, foundation, and corporate giving, public and private grants, capital campaign, and special events

4.    Work closely with Associate and Executive Directors and Development and Communications Manager to develop strategies for major gifts and to identify opportunities for funding, organizing funding and solicitation efforts in the form of grants, donations, fundraising, campaigns, and/or other means available

5.    Successfully manage execution of fundraising plan ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders

6.    Plan and manage special events meeting strategic fund development and communication goals

7.    Implement campaigns to secure new donors and retain existing donors

8.    Serving as primary contact for all funding partners, maintain a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, and engage in donor cultivation and gift solicitation, including in-kind gifts, and acknowledge gifts in a timely manner

9.    Organize phone calls and meetings with Foundation staff to build relationships and attend grant coalition meetings staying up to date on reporting dates, proposal dates, contract changes/renewals, etc.

10. Reviews and writes upcoming proposals and, when assigned, reports for grants

11. Other special projects as needed

Competencies

  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence and engage donors and other funding partners
  • Ability to work independently and exercise confidentiality and sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated success with securing major gifts, donations, grants, and other funding opportunities
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of constituent service and response

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • 3-5 years of experience fundraising, donor relations, and/or development
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure
  • Enthusiasm for working at a progressive, start-up organization
  • Passion for social justice for immigrants required

 

Preferred Education and Experience

·      4-6 years of experience fundraising, donor relations, and/or development

·      Demonstrated success securing major gifts for mission-driven organizations

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

None required for this position. 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Classification and Work Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position. Work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with evening and weekend work as needed and flexibility required based on the needs of the organization.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates largely in a professional office environment but will also work in a variety of locations depending on events, fundraisers, and stakeholder meetings. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. 

Travel

Regular local day travel should be expected with this position. There may be occasional overnight travel.

  • ImmDef provides health coverage on the first of the month following 30 days on the job. We cover 100% of premiums for our base dental and vision plans for our staff members and 75% of base plan dental and vision premiums for their dependents. ImmDef also covers 98% of the base plan medical premiums for our staff and 73% of the base plan medical premiums for their dependents.

FSA and Dependent Care FSA

  • ImmDef offers FSA plans to help offset the costs of eligible health care expenses for you, your spouse, and your eligible dependents using pre-tax dollars
  • We also offer Dependent Care FSA to pay for eligible dependent care services, such as preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult daycare.


401(k) Retirement Savings Plan

  • ImmDef staff are eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plans immediately upon hire, contributing pre-tax dollars towards their retirement goals
  • After six months on staff, ImmDef will match 100% of contributions up to 3%
  • Funds are vested immediately!


Public Service Loan Forgiveness

  • As a 501(c)3, qualified ImmDef staff are eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness
