Coalition Overview:


The Black Swan Academy and Rights4Girls will serve as co-conveners of the DC Girls Coalition. The coalition comprised of youth-serving and advocacy organizations elevate and amplify the voices of young women and girls of color in the District of Columbia.The Coalition strives to reduce the criminalization and adultification of girls of color, by uplifting girls as leaders and building a network of organizations dedicated to advocating for and adopting policies and practices that center the needs of girls of color. 


Position Overview: We are seeking a part-timeDC Girls Coalition Coordinator who is self-motivated, proactive and demonstrates a clear commitment to racial and gender justice. The Coordinator will support the coalition mission and manage the day-to-day operations.  The Coordinator will be responsible for cultivating relationships coalition partners and members of the Youth Advisory Council, coordinating meetings and supporting all coalition initiatives. The Coordinator will also be the liaison between the Youth Advisory Council and coalition partners in order to ensure that all policy priorities and initiatives are youth-centered and based on feedback and guidance from girls in the Youth Advisory Council. 


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate monthly coalition meetings and meeting with youth advisors,
  • Provide general administrative support, including scheduling meetings, arranging travel for youth, preparing expense reports, posting content on website and social media.
  • Support Coalition in preparation and execution of initiatives and events 
  • Respond to requests for information and support, including monitoring issues that may arise in DC.
  • Conduct research to support the Coalition’s advocacy and research objectives as needed.
  • Represent Coalition at hearings, briefings, trainings, workshops, and other external events as needed.
  • Work to establish relationships with aligned organizations and stakeholders in the DC area.


Qualifications


  • 1-2 years experience facilitating meetings/workshops
  • 2-3 years of experience working in advocacy, public policy and/or community organizing
  • Applicants should possess a proactive and self-motivated work style. 
  • Experience working with youth is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience working/living in DC and engaging on local issues.
  • Strong proofreading, copy editing, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility, good judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks and

consistently prioritize as warranted. 

  • Proven commitment to racial and gender justice
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Social 

Media Platforms (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram).

 


Salary: $20-$30 per hour, 20 hours per week.
