Salary Range: $62,581 - $68,103 Annually

NRPA is currently seeking a NRPA is currently seeking a Volunteer and Awards Manager to join our Education Department.

 

Job Overview

 

The Volunteer and Awards Manager will oversee all aspects of the NRPA awards program and NRPA volunteer opportunities. Working with the staff managers, this position is responsible for creatively and proactively administrating volunteer committees, including recruitment, engagement and the management of volunteer program’s work and initiatives based on NRPA’s strategic priorities. This manager will also focus on the planning, execution, and promotion of NRPA’s awards programs. NRPA has three award programs, Spotlight Awards, Innovation Awards and Scholarships and Fellowships, each with multiple award opportunities within their categories. The Volunteer and Awards Manager will also oversee the Awards Committee.

 

This position will report to the Senior Manager of Membership and work with a group of passionate, creative, and fun leaders dedicated to creating more equitable, healthy, and resilient communities through parks and recreation.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

·      Volunteer Management

o  In coordination with staff managers, administrates, designs and leads NRPA’s volunteer program including recruitment and orientation of volunteers in line with NRPA values, strategy and policies.

o  Serves as the primary lead on the posting and management of NRPA volunteer opportunities through Higher Logic.

o  Supports the administration of NRPA Networks in collaboration with Senior Manager of Membership.

o  Upholds and updates NRPA’s volunteer standardization guidelines.

o  Works closely with the NRPA staff to identify opportunities for volunteer engagement to advance NRPA goals.

o  Maintains and tracks NRPA’s volunteers and opportunities in NRPA records, including in Higher Logic and iMIS.

o  Schedules, plans, and coordinates volunteer meetings.

o  Drafts and executes volunteer communications (in collaboration with the staff manager) to recruit and engage through Higher Logic and our other marketing avenues.

o  Presents positive, upbeat and energetic support in response to inquiries and help requests related to volunteering from staff, current volunteers and potential volunteers.

o  Supports the development of documents, policies, and practices for onboarding new and returning volunteers.

o  Advise and contribute knowledge to volunteers as they work.

o  Ensures recognition of volunteer contributions and volunteer succession planning.

·      Awards Program Management

o  Serves as Awards Committee liaison, which includes recruiting new members, coordinating with Chair and committee meeting planning (2-3 per year).

o  Promotion planning to increase number of awards applications each year.

o  Managing the awards process, from application to award, including:

§ the Application process using Open Water platform and award related websites.

§ Order and deliver awards to present at the NRPA Annual Conference Best of the Best Ceremony.

§ Coordinate conference attendance for scholarship and fellowship recipients, including the mentoring process. 

§ Point of contact for all award winners, including gathering information for awards ceremony, meet and greet during conference.

§ Work as the NRPA liaison with the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) to help promote the National Gold Medal Award Program.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·      2+ years’ experience in a volunteer or awards manager position a plus.

  • Excellent organizational, project management, written and oral communication, customer service and problem-solving skills required.
  • Interest and willingness to facilitate meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, and present on behalf of NRPA at conferences, meetings.
  • Adheres to NRPA policies and contributes to an inclusive work culture.
  • Preferred knowledge of Higher Logic community management platform, iMIS, and Open Water
  • Knowledge of systems including Microsoft office
  • Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) concepts
  • Commitment to contributing to an inclusive work culture


Candidate Work Style:

·      Willing to travel up to 25 days per year outside of the Washington Metropolitan Area or your remote work location, including attendance at the NRPA annual conference.
