Manager, Next Generation (NextGen)
Reporting to the Assistant Director of UNICEF Next Generation, the Manager will help build and grow UNICEF Next Generation (NextGen) by engaging young professionals, leaders and future/current philanthropists who are committed to UNICEF’s mission. The Manager will help build relationships with NextGen donors and expand the program to new markets and constituents. In addition, the Manager will assist with developing and providing further engagement opportunities for the NextGen members and 5 Steering Committees with potential growth to 9 Steering Committees by FY21, and will connect the NextGen program to the full range of UNICEF USA and UNICEF’s programs, events and priorities.
This position can be based in one of our regional offices located in Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York City.
This is a three-year grant-funded position.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
- Support Assistant Director in ensuring that NextGen meets its financial goals of $3 million+.
- Build donor relationships and strategies with Chicago, LA, New York, Atlanta and Bay Area Steering Committee members to enhance the growth and management of the community’s fundraising efforts (work with relationship staff and events team in regions where appropriate) and support the 5 Steering Committees with potential to be point for the additional 4 Steering Committees by FY21.
- Support a portfolio of young, high net worth individuals, their families and their networks, and work with the NextGen Philanthropy Officer and Development staff in raising increased revenue from this group of highly engaged philanthropists by soliciting and securing gifts at the major gift and corporate level, includes identification, cultivation, and stewardship
- Further develop and build out NextGen’s remote consulting platform and manage the program
- Oversee the management of the NextGen member web portal, keeping portal up to date and relevant
- Strategize the development of the Steering Committees and how to further engage NextGen members in the life of UNICEF (through fundraising events, pop up events, activities, and communication/messaging)
- Plan and execute an annual NextGen Global Summit
- Work with other USF departments to further develop, market and evaluate the NextGen program to ensure it continues to grow and inspire, motivate and engage 21-40 year olds in UNICEF’s mission
- Oversee NextGen’s internal relationships across the organization to ensure timely connection, execution and maximum strategic impact
- Support the Special Events Team and the Philanthropy Officer in overseeing event committee management, relationship development and solicitations for USF’s special events
- Work with Assistant Director and Senior Director to determine feasibility of NextGen expansion into other geographic markets and support the growth of NextGen leadership in DC, Boston, Dallas, and Houston and oversee these growing cities
- Brainstorm, develop and support the NextGen team & committee members in special NextGen projects as needed
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience specifically in high net worth donor portfolio management and/or board/committee leadership and management
- Must be a self-motivated professional with a proven success record in major gifts fundraising
- Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to prioritize; work independently; handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously; and to generate pragmatic solutions to challenges
- Strong customer service approach to interactions with colleagues and partners; ability to navigate complex environments, and help build relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and have experience using a fundraising database
- Must share a strong commitment to international humanitarian relief and passionately embrace the mission of UNICEF USA
- Ability and willingness to travel in the interest of donor cultivation and stewardship, as needed
