Job Description:

 Girls Inc. of New York City (GINYC) delivers life-changing programs that inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Research-based curricula, delivered by trained professionals, equips girls to achieve academically; lead healthy and physically active lives; manage money; navigate media messages; and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. GINYC is an independent affiliate of the national Girls Inc. organization, the nation’s leading expert on issues affecting girls and young women.


Girls Inc. of NYC seeks a dedicated and inspired team member who is committed to creating positive and supportive spaces for girls. The full-time Program Coordinator candidate will possess the following skills: ability to relationship build with high school girls; facilitate in an engaging, creative and supportive way; ability to incorporate youth development and community building in curriculum design; have a keen awareness of and celebrate the vast cultural experiences of New York City girls. Responsibilities will also include identifying programmatic needs of the girls, implementing Girls Inc. curriculum, modifying and developing activities that are in line with the Girls Inc. mission. 


The Program Coordinator will collaborate with school administration and staff, and connect girls to resources to meet their needs. The successful candidate possesses excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and ability to build relationships and interface with persons from a variety of backgrounds. Must be detail oriented, an independent self-starter, an advocate for women and girls and have a positive outlook and can-do attitude. Must also have a love of learning, be highly energetic, creative, a problem-solver, negotiator, and have the ability to work a flexible schedule. 


Key Responsibilities:


Leadership

  • Act as a role model for program participants and staff
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure good conduct, safety and development of program participants
  • Foster a culture of excellence in program service delivery


Program Development and Implementation

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality, interactive programming for middle and high school girls, creating lesson plans that are culturally relevant for a diverse student population
  • Create a safe space for girls to explore their values, identities, and academic and career options
  • Be a role model/mentor to girls, promoting their well-being, development, confidence, and success; motivate and inspire girls to be active participants in program activities, encouraging their long-term involvement
  • Oversee day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
  • Ensure that girls are encouraged to participate in a variety of GINYC clubs, activities and events
  • Record and maintain program, attendance, outcome, and evaluation data
  • Encourage the development of positive peer relationships among program participants
  • Support in the development and facilitation of GINYC trainings


Resource Management

  • Ensure compliance with GINYC policies and procedures
  • Manage program and educational resources
  • Ensure productive work environment in delivery of all programs
  • Support Site Director to ensure proper record keeping and reporting for all programs
  • Support Site Director to ensure compliance with all reporting requirements for GINYC
  • Monitor and support participants through risk management; appropriately reports concerns about issues of child safety regulations


Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure a team-based work environment by communicating effectively and positively with supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly-changing environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field
  • 1-2 years experience delivering youth leadership programming
  • Specialized knowledge in girls’ developmental needs and experience a plus
  • Capacity to positively engage pre/adolescent girls
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, sharing information and effective practices
  • Candidate will be expected to travel to program sites throughout New York City
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Technologically proficient
  • Spanish bi-lingual a plus

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following competencies through a combination of previous education/work experiences:

 

Curriculum

  • Ability to design and adapt curriculum to engage middle and high school girls in a fun, interactive, and empowering learning environment


 Project Management

  • Ability to organize effectively (track tasks and work to deadlines)
  • Prioritize appropriately and act in keeping with priorities
  • Able to identify and address inhibitors to progress
  • Expertise with office technologies, especially Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and internet resources such as google docs


Communication Skills

  • Motivating and inspirational verbal presentation style
  • Ability to encourage genuine and respectful communications among program participants
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as seen in communications with students, parents, partners

HOURS: The Program Coordinator is a full time position. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm.
