Under the direction of the Director of Clinical and Forensic Services, the Manager, Family Support & Advocacy is responsible for the supervision of a team of Case Managers and for the provision of immediate and ongoing victim advocacy and support services to clients at the Jane Barker Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The Manager assists the Clinical and Senior Directors in CAC support services that are provided for client families and all members of the Brooklyn CAC Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
· Provide direct individual and group supervision to a team of three or more Case Managers in accordance with the CAC’s quality supervision plan;
· Integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into all client practice and supervision of staff, and coach staff to ensure all client practice reflects this approach;
· Collaborate with the Director of Clinical and Forensic Services to assign cases for on-site victim advocacy and support services;
· In collaboration with the Director of Clinical and Forensic Services, Supervising Clinical Forensic Specialists, and Multidisciplinary Team Coordinators, ensures the proper completion and submission of OVS claim applications and ECAP applications;
· Represents Safe Horizon at client conferences facilitated by ACS, Foster Care Agencies and/or Preventive Agencies to support families and ensure the coordination of victim advocacy, medical and forensic services through the CAC;
· In collaboration with the Clinical & Senior Directors, implement CAC quality improvement initiatives as appropriate;
· Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling to clients of the CAC both in person and by telephone;
· Provide information about the rights of crime victims and services available, including compensation claims assistance, accompaniment to forensic rape evaluations, and emergency and practical assistance;
· Provide education about the purpose and process of the CAC investigation and prosecution in criminal and/or family court;
· Advocate to and coordinate with law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, medical and mental health CAC staff for the benefit of the child victim and involved family members;
· Maintain ongoing communication with families about the CAC investigation, criminal justice process and family and/or criminal court proceedings when appropriate;
· Collaborate with the Clinical and Senior Directors in the preparation and presentation of cases for expedited case review and/or case review meetings with the MDT and actively participate in same;
· Collaborate with the Clinical and Senior Directors in the collection and review of data in CMS, and ensure timely and accurate data entry by the Case Managers;
· Participate in the recruitment, hiring and orienting of Case Managers;
· Supervise the activities of interns as needed;
· Other related duties as assigned.
· Strong leadership, organizational, team-building, crisis management, problem solving and conflict-resolution skills required.
· Prior supervision experience required.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or related field or equivalent relevant experience required. Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field desirable.
· Bi-lingual Spanish preferred.
· An appreciation for the CAC multidisciplinary team program model and alignment with Safe Horizon’s anti-racism work is essential.
· Sound knowledge of issues relating to victimization and child abuse is essential.
· Prior experience working with children and families impacted by abuse and trauma is preferred.
