A growing DC based non profit organization is looking for an enthusiastic and effective STEM Arts and Reading (STREAM) Program Director. We are looking for an individual who can lead youth and adults in the learning process through the use of skills such as creativity, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, ethical decision-making, collaboration, teamwork, time management, empathy, and leadership.

If you believe you have what it takes to inspire instructors and students to think creatively, critically, and innovatively, and you’re comfortable creating various practices and procedures in the fields of STREAM we'd love to have a chat with you!

STEM Lessons and topics may include but are not limited to age appropriate levels of: introductory computer coding and typing skills, animation, graphic design, film making, photography, basic circuitry and robotics, engineering (Legos, Minecraft, electronic game design,) etc. We are constantly updating our lessons and course availability in the areas of STREAM (Science Technology Reading Engineering Arts and Math).

This is a great opportunity for you to gain youth development experience in addition to managing a team of youth developers. You should be kind, flexible, patient and willing to explain various concepts in a clear and engaging manner. Ideally, you will encourage independence, implement motivational strategies as needed, assist with time management and work on strategies to enhance retention of information and STEM/Arts skills.

 

*Pre-employment FBI background, DC Police Background, Sex offender registry and DCFR checks are required.*

Position onboarding and training starts upon completion of successful background check.

Must Have...

Availability during weekday afternoons and potentially some Saturdays.

Willingness to observe and improve 90 minute class models.

Reliable transportation (yes Metro Uber/Lyft counts as you will need to commute to training and teaching sites) Locations are around the Washington, DC area (mainly SE DC).

Excellent communication skills both verbal and writing skills, time management skills

Things That Give You an Advantage.

  • Experience recruiting and leading a team of people from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Experience facilitating trainings for youth and adults.
  • Experience and passion teaching K-8 students in a classroom or summer camp setting is a plus.
  • STEM or Arts related coursework or experience is a plus!
  • Experience leading project-based learning Science classes, Game coding, Lego robotics (WeDo 2.0 & EV3) and 3D Printing is a plus
  • CPR/First Aid certified is a plus (but we will reimburse the course if you don't currently have them).

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher (Required)
  • Having a degree in STEM or the Arts field is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, Arts, Science, Engineering, or a STEM-related field preferred.
