Mission:

The mission of StreetWise Partners is to leverage mentorship to increase employment opportunities in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Detroit. StreetWise Partners pairs volunteers with mentees who are unemployed or underemployed to provide them with the skills, resources, and networks they need to secure and maintain employment.

Organizational Description:

For over 20 years, StreetWise Partners has driven economic and career success for adults from overlooked and under-resourced communities. StreetWise Partners’ one-year mentoring program provides customized, individualized mentorship for internship and job seekers while helping them establish an expansive professional network made up of hundreds of advocates who open doors and support long term career success. StreetWise Partners launched its first program in New York City in 1997, expanded to Washington D.C. in 2006 and to Detroit in 2019. Since inception, StreetWise Partners has served 7,000 mentees through the support of 12,000 mentors.

Position Overview:

StreetWise Partners seeks an organized, energetic and results-oriented Development Assistant to help drive fundraising success for our organization. Specifically, the Development Assistant will track and maintain donor data, implement donor recognition strategies, assist with special events and support the department in fulfilling its annual fundraising plan. This is an exciting position for someone who is looking to join a growing organization and learn about non-profit development. This is a full-time position in New York City and reports to the Director of Development & Communications. The role is currently virtual but will return to in-person in the future.

Responsibilities include:

Fundraising and Events Support

• Assist the Development team in raising an annual budget of $1.6 million through diverse fundraising initiatives.

• Support the Development team's cultivating of donors by maintaining prospect lists, donor records and fundraising timelines; keeping proposals and engagement plans up to date in Salesforce.

• Help manage and support donor cultivation events, including early-stage planning, check-in and logistics, liaising with vendors, and soliciting silent auction items.

• Staff large and small virtual and in-person events (events are currently all virtual); manage event income and RSVP tracker spreadsheets; provide phone and email follow-up to event sponsors and ticket holders.

• Produce timely acknowledgements for donors/funders; draft and manage acknowledgement letter templates.

• Research individual, foundation and corporate donor prospects using Foundation Center Directory Online, iWave and other online research methods.

• Curate mailing lists and run mail merges for all donor-facing communications.

Database and Finance Support:

• Maintain accurate donor data in Salesforce; effectively track key information including contact and biographical information, giving history, affiliations, campaigns, event participation, volunteerism, and communication efforts.

• Ensure quality control; address maintenance and adjustment requests in a timely manner; create new accounts, remove duplicate records, and uphold the standard for style format of data.

• Generate reports to assist with ongoing analysis and identification of fundraising opportunities.

• Curate all email lists in Constant Contact; import new contact information on a weekly basis.

• Process offline donations and assess online donations in real time; update solicitors when gifts are made from their contacts; deposit checks and digitally file check copies, award letters, and other donor communications.

• Monitor electronic transfers of gifts via external stockbroker, charitable organizations and corporate matching gift programs; process invoices and tax letter requests in real time.

• Generate weekly and monthly revenue reports for the Finance department.

• Assist Finance department with monthly reconciliation and clean up procedures; support with annual audit process.

Administrative Support:

• Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Director of Development & Communications, Director of Strategic Partnerships, and Executive Director including scheduling donor meetings and making follow up calls and emails.

• Assist with Board and Board committee meeting prep and organization.

• Performs any other department or related tasks and projects as needed.

Level of Language Proficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; 1-2 years of work experience in office setting

and/or in development preferred.

• Strong analytical, verbal, written, organizational and communication skills.

• Keen attention to detail, and a quick learner.

• Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

• Ability to think and work quickly and efficiently; engage professionally with colleagues, donors, and other stakeholders.


• Experience with Salesforce or other data management software a plus.

• Affinity for financial data and a strong commitment to accuracy and database integrity.

• Strong ethics and discretion with sensitive material.

• Willingness to be flexible, open-minded, and be a highly engaged team player.

• Ability to meet competing deadlines on time, work independently, and exercise thoughtful prioritization.

• Strong commitment to social justice and racial equity; sincere interest in the mission.
