University Settlement Neighborhood Center, serving Manhattan's Lower East Side offers a robust menu of services to a diverse population of older adults aged 60 and older. The multi-service program provides case assistance, meals, health and wellness activities, recreational and educational activities through virtual classes. 


What You Will Be Doing:

  • Order, receive, inspect, and safely store dry, perishable, and frozen foods
  • Check refrigerator and freezer temperatures on a daily basis
  • Prepare daily food cost records and enter daily statistics into database
  • Attend training sessions
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is cleaned and sanitized weekly
  • Collaborate with Director and Chef on Menus
  • Make local food purchases if needed
  • Clean all pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment daily
  • Clean stoves and ovens once a week, clean refrigerators weekly

What We Are Looking For:

  • You must have a New York City Department of Health Food Handler's Certificate
  • High School Diploma or HSE
  • You have at least two years of experience in the food service industry
  • Good physical health
  • Must be able to stretch, bend, walk up flights of stairs
  • Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Office
  • Must speak and understand basic English
  • Must be a team player and interact well with other staff
  • Ability to follow menus, large quantity recipes, and schedules

Hours: 17 hours per week
