We are looking for an experienced Program Manager (46904) to join our ALLIP team in Los Angeles.

Asian Language Legal intake Project ("ALLIP") provides toll-free hotlines in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Filipino (Tagalog), Hindi, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese languages. The intake staff also provides assistance in English and other languages. ALLIP is the gateway to direct legal service programs in AAAJ-LA/OC on issues such as domestic violence, family law, immigration, citizenship, discrimination and hate crime/incidents. All callers will receive legal counsel and advice, resource information, and/or referrals to appropriate agencies depending on the issues.

WHAT YOU BRING

• J.D. and must be an active member of the California State Bar 
• Minimum of four (4) years of legal practice in poverty law, housing, immigration, and/or family law
• Minimum of one (1) year of supervision
• Bilingual or biliterate in at least one Asian language strongly preferred (Chinese, Korean, Thai, Tagalog, or Vietnamese)
• Dedication to serving immigrant communities and a sincere commitment to working on behalf of low-income immigrants
• Valid driver's license and/or access to alternative means of transportation

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the supervision of the Managing Director of Client Services, the Program Manager is responsible for overseeing our Asian Language Legal Intake Program (ALLIP), legal helplines that increase access to justice for low-income, limited English speaking immigrants. The Program Manager will supervise advocates that conduct in-language legal intakes for all Advancing Justice-LA’s substantive legal programs, including family law, domestic violence, immigration, employment, and civil rights. In addition, this position provides support with identifying and securing future funding. This position is NOT covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Your day-to-day typically includes:

60% Manage Program Deliverables, Grants and Staff

• Ensure deliverables remain on track
• Responsible for organizing and analyzing data to prepare and draft monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual grant reports and invoices
• Coordinate and manage monitoring visit and audits to ensure grant compliance
• Works closely with granters and funders to ensure administrative grant compliance
• Manage sub-grantee contracts to ensure grant compliance
• Provide administrative support to Managing Director and Development department to seek future funding and assess current funding to sustain project work
• Work collaboratively with other programs to develop and streamline centralized intake policies, procedures, and improve client services overall
• Manage language support provided to other Advancing Justice-LA programs and community partners
• Directly supervise, mentor, and support staff, including interns and volunteers and provide opportunities for professional development and growth

25% Represent Clients and Maintain Client Caseload

• Maintain a reasonable caseload, providing direct client work
• Strategize taking on appropriate cases given community needs, priorities, and agency resources
• Oversee staff preparation for court appearances, court forms, and briefs
• Oversee preparation of court forms and legal documents on behalf of clients

15% Maintain Community Relations 

• Act as organization spokesperson for language specific and culturally relevant legal aid services
• Represent the organization in the media, community groups, donors, and affiliates
• Support policy unit to analyze, draft, and advocate for policy/legislation.
• Participate in strategic meetings with other legal and community groups
• All other duties as assigned
