About Phipps Neighborhoods:

Phipps Neighborhoods is a multi-service nonprofit, established in 1972, providing a comprehensive network of educational, work-readiness and community development programs to more than 12,000 children, teens and adults each year in targeted communities across the Bronx and Manhattan. These programs include: Head Start and Early Head Start, after-school, summer camp, literacy and ESOL, pre- HSE, college prep, work readiness, resident support, and adult/family programs.

Program:

The Workforce Development division has developed the Career Network model that will offer a full menu of workforce development programs, resources and opportunities to the community at large. The youth programs include Transfer to Career, Neighborhood Development Area: Opportunity Youth, Summer Youth Employment Program, Work, Learn, and Grow, and Career Network: Healthcare (CNH). Our goal is to extend the career exploration, preparation and job readiness component to elementary, middle and high school while increasing our reach to adults in the Bronx Community. Phipps Neighborhoods supports the Bronx Community in exploring and identifying respective professions that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. We work with our employer partners and training providers to develop solid career exploration and job readiness components, provide classroom-based and virtual learning preparation and internship/externship opportunities that are tailored to the specific needs of those we serve and create a clear pathway to employment, vocational training and/or post-secondary opportunity.

Position Overview:

  • Liaise with current employer partners to strengthen the partnership and smoothly transition participants from training into job opportunities.
  • Promote and participate in outreach activities directed at connecting with employers to engage them in PN workforce programs.
  • Identify, contact and build relationships with employers to educate about the PN workforce programs and its advantages to partnering.
  • Serve as the point person and act as a resource for employers working with the workforce program participants
  • Assist in preparing our workforce program participants to acquire and sustain a career-oriented job. This person will support participants in identifying career goals: employment, post-secondary, vocational training, and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Assist in intake process for workforce programs including reviewing applications, conducting interviews and case conferencing about new enrollees in programs.
  • Facilitate and/or collaborate in the delivery of interview preparation workshops.
  • Develop internal career fairs, job shadowing events, career panels, site visits, etc. as related to respective sectors.
  • Attend relevant workshops, conference, networking events and career fairs both internally and externally.
  • Conduct site visits to employer partners during training and externship.
  • Provide retention services ensuring that participants are staying on their career plan and accessing all employer and union benefits for which they are eligible. The Job Developer will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure that students are matched to appropriate job opportunities.
  • Ensure employees are accessing all benefits through employer and union for which they are eligible.
  • Enter relevant data into respective database systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Workforce Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or other appropriate field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of job development, employer engagement and/or youth development experience.
  • Some experience in teaching or facilitating classroom activities.
  • Knowledge of NYC labor market preferred.
  • Strong communication skills-written and oral.
  • Must be flexible, enjoy working with young adults and have a strong initiative to work in a team environment.
  • Intermediate in Microsoft Office suite, Windows applications, internet and email required, experience with SalesForce helpful.
