Project details

MoveOn is requesting proposals for a contractor who can

  1. build and cultivate relationships with representatives of cultural leaders, celebrities, and artists to bring their voices and commitment to progressive change to grow our reach, membership, funding, and impact via email, social media, and other avenues;
  2. support efforts to quickly and effectively work with visual artists on rapid-turnaround designs for mass-distributed stickers, posters, and other campaign merchandise.
  3. at times, and hours permitting, help conceive, develop, and manage special projects that have a cultural or celebrity component with a focus on digital projects.

MoveOn has a long history of working with cultural leaders and celebrities. In 2018, our focus is on working with cultural leaders and celebrities to amplify the reach of our electoral program in ways that energize our existing membership and help us reach new members to engage in our work. MoveOn members and the broader community will have the opportunity to participate in this electoral program in many ways, including by volunteering at canvasses, submitting selfie videos, contributing small donations, taking actions via SMS, and sharing content on social media—and our celebrity and cultural engagement will be focused on boosting member participation across those activities while also engaging new members.

Additionally, MoveOn has historically worked with numerous artists and designers on campaigns to produce and distribute images, stickers, and campaign merchandise. We are now looking to increase the speed and ease of mass distribution of such material, quickly and clearly communicating with artists with whom we have ongoing relationships and understanding the market for expedited production and mass distribution.

Specifications of what we're looking for in a vendor working 10-15 hours/week

  1. A track record of working with celebrities, cultural leaders, artists, and/or their managers, agents, and production companies
  2. Proven ability to move a cultural product from conception to completion with a high level of independence
  3. Experience working in fast-paced environments and communicating clearly, respectfully, and effectively with cultural leaders and artists
  4. Competent familiarity with digital communications and social media
  5. Knowledge of progressive politics
  6. A sense of cultural opportunities—and how to make informed “bets” on what can break through and meet a cultural moment
  7. Demonstrated commitment to working across communities and demographics
  8. Desired but not required: experience with project-specific budgeting, merchandise, and political campaigns
  9. Experience working in or understanding of how digital organizing tactics can be harnessed for change

The contractor could be based anywhere in the United States. The role may require occasional travel to New York, Los Angeles, or other destinations in the U.S. (Travel and lodging would be covered by MoveOn in such instances.)
