Aftercare Associate

The Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (ACE) works with men and women experiencing homelessness, providing job training, work experience and a lifetime support network to help our program participants secure full-time employment and achieve long-term economic independence.

Project Stay is ACE's life-long aftercare program. It is designed to assist graduates of our job-readiness training program in maintaining employment, increasing earning power over time, and transitioning to independent living. Under the supervision of the Aftercare Coordinator, the Aftercare Specialist’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Employment Retention & Tracking

·        Remain in contact with graduates via meetings, phone contact, and occasional visits to places of employment

·        Explore work-related issues with graduates, troubleshoot employment issues, provide coaching and support in resolving issues

·        Facilitate monthly groups in mornings and evenings for graduates, focusing on relevant work-related and independent living topics

·        Track graduate employment data and collect pay stubs

·        Facilitate monthly staff meetings for supported employment employees; identify and schedule programming (seminars on HR / workplace topics, health care sign-ups, tax prep assistance, etc.)

Transitioning to Independence / Establishing a Supportive Network

·        Address issues related to the transition to independent living including housing, healthcare, transitioning off of benefits, financial health, sobriety management, wellness, and time management

·        Foster a supportive community that encourages graduates to remain connected to ACE, develop programming as appropriate to respond to graduate needs

·        Provide light-touch financial coaching to graduates

·        Facilitate job-readiness classes

Job Search Support / Vocational Advancement

·        Provide job search support as needed for graduates, update resumes

·        Assist graduates in accessing educational and professional opportunities to increase earning power

·        Develop relationships with schools and training programs, coordinating information sessions and assisting with career planning and class enrollment to increase graduate earning power

·        Develop volunteering / mentoring opportunities for long-time graduates who would like to mentor current participants

Other Responsibilities

·        Publish bi-weekly monthly graduate newsletter

·        Maintain ACE graduate Facebook page

·        Coordinate ACE volunteer events

·        Assist in coordinating graduation ceremonies

·        All other duties assigned by Aftercare Coordinator

Availability

·        Work hours are 9-5. One day per week, work an 11-7 shift instead.

·        Hold weekend office hours 1-2 times per month (alternating frequency each month)

·        Facilitate off-site groups twice per year *currently on pause due to pandemic*

·        Coordinate bi - monthly evening social events for graduates and program participants *most events are currently on pause due to pandemic*

 

Skills & Qualifications

•             At least 2 years of social service experience

•             Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable working with a diverse population with barriers to employment

•             Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Internet research

•             A commitment to helping formerly homeless individuals transition to self-sufficiency and pursue their long-term vocational goals
