Development Administrative Assistant  

Make the Road New York (MRNY) is hiring a full-time administrative assistant to work with MRNY’s Development & Communications Department. The Administrative Assistant will be based out of our Bushwick - Troutman office.  



THE ORGANIZATION:  

  

Make the Road New York builds the power of immigrant and working class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road NY operates neighborhood-based community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island; Brentwood, Long Island; and White Plains,

Westchester. With a membership of more than 23,000 low-income New Yorkers, Make the Road NY tackles the critical issues facing our community: workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant civil rights, language-access, TGNCIQ (transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex, and queer) justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform.  

 

CURRENT OPENING:

MRNY's development department is in charge of meeting the organization's $18 million annual budget and overseeing its capital campaign to build a new community center. We raise funds from diverse sources, including private and public institutions and individuals at all levels. We are seeking an assistant to support our individual donor fundraising and assist with other development projects, including our three major fundraising events and our volunteer network of allies, Aliadxs. 


Responsibilities include:  

•       Helping to manage donor communication

•       Data and contact management

•       Donor research and prospecting

•       Processing financial donations and gift acknowledgements 

•       Supporting special event organizing

•       Supporting special projects as needed


REQUIREMENTS:

 Applicants should possess an interest in fundraising and a commitment to social justice with the desire to grow within the department. Administrative and database experience is a plus. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. MRNY is a large, multi-faceted organization, and this position requires flexibility, a positive attitude, and an ability to deal with many tasks and prioritize while being on top of the details. 

Applicants should:   

•       Work effectively on a tight schedule and be able to set and meet realistic deadlines

•       Have excellent communication skills, including solid writing

•       Be highly professional, a team player, and a self-starter with extremely strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

•       Show a passion for excellence and eagerness to help the department meet our goals

•       Possess the ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and perform assigned duties with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment  

•       A sense of humor and ability to work under pressure required

•       Have a working knowledge of spreadsheets, Microsoft Office suite, and using a database (ideally Salesforce) to run reports, mail merge, etc.

•       Ideally, have experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment

•       Possess a commitment to social justice and community organizing 



SALARY AND BENEFITS:

 Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically elected personnel committee and depends on factors such as experience and education.  MRNY offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days and paid maternity / paternity leave.
