Summary

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for executing external communications and messaging strategy for TCE Fund and TCE. The position will be responsible for writing, editing, and collaborating with directors on the execution of social media content, mass emails, fundraising documents, and other important communications. The Coordinator will regularly meet with directors and other staff to ensure that campaign messaging and content is consistent, persuasive, and professional.

Candidates must possess demonstrated experience in both earned and social media strategies to grow support for issue campaigns. The Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Campaign Strategy Director, while balancing and prioritizing multiple inputs from program staff around the state.

Major Functions and Responsibilities

• Collaboratively develop and execute communications strategies that support the organizations’ broader strategic plan and values.

• Manage multi-media public education campaigns to extend the impact of our advocacy, including developing a specific marketing strategy for increasing public support of campaign objectives, including our pollution complaint portal and environmental organizing mini-grants.

• Work with local, regional, national, and digital press to pitch stories, maximize media coverage, and enhance the visibility of TCE Fund in communities statewide.

• Collaboratively develop and coordinate the production and distribution of all press materials, including press releases, advisories, and memos to ensure the organization’s message is disciplined and consistent.

• Effectively use our access to online petition platforms to advance our organizational goals.

• Conduct press outreach and coordinate communications efforts on TCE Fund campaigns in collaboration with the organization’s program staff in targeted geographic regions (Austin, D/FW, Houston, Gulf Coast). Co-lead communications efforts in areas outside the main target regions.

• Update and maintain media contact database.

• Manage our lists of email and text recipients to optimize targeting of TCE Fund messaging and maximize the effectiveness of our communications. 

• Work with program staff to develop and manage dynamic content for the organization’s websites and social media platforms.

• Assist in developing strategies for online e-activism campaigns and other web organizing campaigns

• Assist with fundraising communications

• Assist with production and editing of TCE Fund & TCE Annual Report, mid-year fundraising and year-end mailings/emails.

Qualifications

• Experience in communications and media relations and/or marketing.

• Outstanding writing and editing skills.

• Understanding of advocacy strategies.

• Experience working with media outlets at national, regional, or local levels.

• Competency working with diverse audiences, including elected officials, community leaders, coalition partners, and the public.

• A keen eye for design, page layout, and general presentation.

A communications degree and/or coursework and/or certifications are a plus.

Additional experience in journalism, online organizing, graphic design, and/or public relations would also be welcome. Spanish speaking and writing skills are a plus.

Salary

$35,000 - $46,000
