Teaching roles are 10-month positions, which are exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.


This position is only for SY 2020-2021, the role is 20 hours a week and teaching two classes daily.

Middle School Digital Literacy Teachers at Capital City:

  • Plans and teaches four sections of a Digital Literacy class that meets twice a week, with an emphasis on developing strong digital learners. Teaches two one-hour long classes Monday through Thursday. 
  • Utilizes a workshop model to differentiate instruction and promote engagement
  • Plans developmentally appropriate lessons and activities with strong curricular connections for students.
  • Attends weekly planning meetings with Specialists, and attends all staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with the library team to implement a technology curriculum for the middle school.
  • Plans for and instructs students in research methods and procedures that will lead them to:
  • Understand library organization and locate specific books
  • Use age-appropriate research skills
  • Use technology in an age-appropriate way
  • Represent research and learning in a variety of formats ie, research paper, presentation, video, children’s book.
  • Use standard MLA citation and understand the need to cite sources and avoid plagiarism
  • Develops a strong classroom culture

Level of Language Proficiency

Capital City seeks to employ experienced, credentialed teachers. Ideal candidates have a Master’s degree and 3+ years of full-time teaching experience.


Minimum required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least one of the following:

  • A major in education or field of instruction or equivalent 30 semester hours of credit
  • District of Columbia teaching license in field of instruction
  • Two years of verifiable teaching experience as a teacher of record
  • One year as a support teacher at Capital City and enrollment in a teacher education or certification program

 

In addition to the above requirements, teachers must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check and a negative TB test.
