SUMMARY
Direct the activities of the finance and accounting department to ensure that the financial position of the Community Renewal Society is fairly and accurately represented. Ensure good communications with the Executive Director and staff about key financial matters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Monitor and enforce financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems, in collaboration with the Executive Director. Recommend changes to and ensure that all financial policies are regularly updated and that staff/Board understands them.
● Maintain the general ledger including timely, accurate closing of the books each month.
● Preparation of all monthly closing work papers according to monthly close process.
● Complete monthly bank reconciliation.
● Produce and distribute monthly financial reports including analysis
● Prepare quarterly reports of investment results and status.
● Staff the Budget and Finance Committee.
● Prepare monthly reports to Budget and Finance Committee; staff and organize meetings, provide minutes and prepare agendas in consultation with the Board Treasurer, and Executive Director.
● Attend the Board of Directors meetings.
● Fixed asset management.
● Project and manage cash flows consistent with financial requirements.
● Prepare supplemental financial reports as needed for development, donors, department managers, etc.
● Research information as requested or needed.
● In collaboration with Executive Director, guide staff annual budget preparation, implementation and maintenance. Oversee the budgeting process in each phase—department level, organization wide and Board discussion and consideration annually.
● Recommend ways to increase the efficiency of the organization.
● Annual audit preparation and management.
● All government filings (including payroll notice responses, Forms 990, AG 990, annual reports, etc.).
● Coordinate financial relationships with organizations for which CRS serves as fiscal sponsor
● Manage accounting software.
● Provide backup accounts payable function
● Propose improvements to systems.
● Keep Executive Director informed of all pertinent financial matters.
● Provide training and education to staff and Board of Directors as needed on financial matters.
● Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices.
● Identify financial risks and implement required controls.
● Maintain relationships with professional service providers as needed, including legal and investment management firms.
● Review and recommend insurance coverage and policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partners with Management Team at the direction of the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience. MBA or related advanced degree a plus.
• Five to ten years accounting experience; CPA or public accounting experience a plus.
• Computer literate with strong knowledge of financial worksheets.
• Knowledge of financial accounting software.
• Knowledge of GAAP.
• Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
• Solid analytical and problem solving skills.
• Self motivated with a strict attention to details.
• Not for Profit Accounting experience.
• Skill in analyzing and interpreting financial records.
• Skill in determining needs, gathering, analyzing and presenting data to provide accurate information for management’s use.
• Skill in preparing accurate and complex financial statements.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with maximum discretion
