Description

The Coordinator will coordinate the after-school program and parent engagement activities at Carlin Springs Elementary School in accordance with the requirements of the Virginia Department of Education 21st C. Community Learning Center Grant.

 

They will also coordinate after-school clubs for approximately 250 children in grades Kindergarten through 5th. Daily direction from Arlington Public Schools Community School Coordinator.

 

Reports To: Resident Services Manager (Harvey Hall)

Location: Carlin Springs Elementary School

Position: 20 hours per week; afternoons from 1:00-5:00pm


Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain daily attendance, including locating and tracking all student participants
  • Coordinate room usage for after-school activities
  • Coordinate late bus dismissal
  • Process club and tutoring registration forms, payments and reimbursements
  • Prepare communications to parents on activities and student attendance/behavior concerns
  • Assist with quarterly evening family events, such as curriculum nights, family health fair, etc.
  • Coordinate the daily snack delivery and properly store food and drinks
  • Prepare snacks daily and monitor the cafeteria while students are eating
  • Facilitate communication with volunteers
  • Collaborate with school staff, AmeriCorps staff, Extended Day program staff as well as other after-school program staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by APS Community School Coordinator and AHC Resident Services Manager


Minimum requirements:

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Work preferred
  • Two years’ experience with administrative work in a school setting
  • Experience working with school-aged children
  • Strong oral and written communication in English
  • Ability to build relationships with a multitude of people; including school staff, volunteers, parents and children
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access databases and accurate typing and data entry skills required
  • Detail-oriented and innovated
  • Good at multi-tasking, flexible, working with others
  • Bilingual Spanish-English skills strongly preferred
