NSM is hiring a Full Time Community Organizer to work on the Driver's License campaign. Working alongside the Co-Director and a community Promotore, the organizer will work to implement the statewide strategies and educational initiatives of the Driving PA Forward campaign. Immigrant advocates and allies across PA have been fighting for licenses for over a decade; however, in the last two years the campaign has gained momentum and is now kicking into high gear to ensure that its recently introduced bill, HB279, is passed. To excel in this position, applicants should be highly motivated, an adaptive team player, and familiar with movements for justice for undocumented communities. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Facilitate campaign committee to plan and implement statewide strategy 
  • Work with Statewide Coalition and attend coordinating committee meetings
  • Work with key leaders in congregations to educate and engage members
  • Coordinate volunteers/committee members for tasks related to campaign
  • Coordinate visits with legislators  
  • Support the development of leadership of members on committee and member congregations 

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in community organizing, which includes recruiting new members, building groups, developing leaders, working on coalition with other groups, planning campaign strategy and direct action
  • Understanding of grassroots campaign work, building community power and campaign escalation 
  • Bilingual in English and one other language. The communities we currently work with speak Spanish, Indonesian, Patois, Creole, and French.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and clergy of different ethnicities, faiths, educational levels, and a range of ages 
  • Strong written and verbal communication. Readiness to work in multilingual spaces with a range of digital literacy levels
  • Experience in facilitation, experience in popular education a plus
  • Understanding of the language and life of faith, openness to a variety of religious experiences and engaged in one’s own faith journey
  • Passionate about immigrant justice and a commitment to building movements and work environments that counter racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated and independent worker
  • Desire to learn, grow and be challenged
  • Ability to work as part of a close-knit team 
  • Flexible hours - significant evenings and weekends
  • Experience working in multi-racial and multi-lingual spaces

  • Bi-cultural and/or a member of the immigrant community
  • Active member of faith community
